2 players were picked up that I had never seen played before in 2001

One is Jeff Nelson who at 5.5mil is a bit overpriced as a setup man. Howver, his card looks lights out and with a C3 rating should do quite well as the closer he was rarely used in reality. Of course, I'm the one who picked him up so thats at least what I'm banking on. 8) :P

The other is John Smoltz. This is the fifth season I've played 2001 since my rookie compaign in January (which was also a 2001 game). Veterans such as JKolak had always advised to stay away since he was overpriced for a recently converted starter who could close. Still, it'll be interesting to see how he does and since I didn't take him I can watch without paying the consequences.

After the disaster that was my last season of 2001, this is already shaping up pretty well but this is the first time for me in a stadium like Miller Park in any Strat game... for left handers its like Coors Field and like Yankee Stadium for RHB's. Hopefully Kile won't tank for me like he did last year.

This league took a long time to finally draft. This represents my last team I purchase for half price back in March. Its the last league that had more than 2 teams in it when I chose back then. I hope this isn't the last horrah for the 2001 game and if it isnt, I'm sure I won't be able to play 5 seasons of it next year like I did this year. Which is a shame because I really like this card set. Oh well, at least I finally was able to pick up Abreu which as a major Yankee fan and a minor Phillies fan is someone who I always wanted to have. :)

Good luck to everyone.

Has anyone ever used Urbina as their closer?

Hello everyone,

I am coming back to Strat after a long hiatus. I am expecting a few sleepless nights starting in a month or so (baby number 3). This is my first team this year, and I expect to do some others in other seasons. I am trying an experiment with this team. It is patterned after a Luckyman team that won 118 games, and a Woody team that won 109 games. So thanks Luckyman and Woody if you are listening. And no I don't expect to win that many games, but that is how I filled out my draft card. I got most of the pitchers I wanted (my pitching staff looks like I got it on a blue light special at Walmart), but not many of the hitters. I got Bonds and Giambi and I think Nevin. I also missed the frenzy, because we were away until Saturday night.

Arryl, we were in a few 2003 leagues together, like a lord of the rings league, and I think a league where we had a few high priced guys and the rest were under a million or something like that. JKolak, I think we might have been in a league or two also. Anyway, good luck to all.

Norm!!!

Pelzer: Not in 01 to my recollection

Norm: Thought that name looked familiar. :) Glad to have you back!

Season starts tonight - good luck to all! :)

Forgot I had 1.5m to spend - lets see if that comes back to bite me ... oh well maybe someone will drop a decent player during the season and then I'll be able to use my reserve to snatch him up.

Wondered about that :D You're right someone will drop a decent guy or two---always happens-always will.......My bonehead move....With using McGwire as a DH--if Sexson goes down at some point in a 3 game series I have no BU 1b  I had McGwire as a BU but HAL won't make that switch with him in the DH role.....Anyone have a CHEAP BU 1b to trade??

You could always play Sexson at DH.

It is rather early...my pitching is subpar but my team is in an offensive type division...but I smell a 60th 2001 playoff appearance coming.

Same for me JK with my Hart Foundation but like you said it is early.

But take a look at this game. Pretty increible.

BTW, it looks like my Mudville Nine and your team on a collision course in the 2006 game we're in. Looking forward to it.
