Keep in mind both examples I'm talking about (one above) PBRT Finished in, and is in, 1st place with ERA under 3.20 IN DH leagues..... In my opinion DH leagues raise the league ERA by at least 1 run per game, making his staff ERA Very impressive.

This team has managed ZERO relief innings (Tudor's innings were as a starter and due to an injury). The higher ERA is deceiving...it is a DH league and loaded with 10 hitting parks including 5 Fenway '67. He's leading the league is ERA.

Every time I've played in an FTF league with friends, we always created some kind of rules governing usage of pitchers (both starters and relievers). The reason for this is obvious - there is just too much potential for abuse (hey, with no limits, why not start Pete for all 162 games! :P ).

Every other person I've talked to about FTF Strat leagues has the same experience - leagues always have some made up rules (because none are officially published by SOM) for pitcher usage. TSN simply needs to do what every FTF SOM league does and implement some kind of rules for pitcher usage.

"Gaming the Game" is within the rules, but only because [b:bcbe0d841b]the Rules Are Misssing[/b:bcbe0d841b]!

I don't have anything personally against those who try to "game the game". This is really more of a [i:bcbe0d841b]Public Relations[/i:bcbe0d841b] and [i:bcbe0d841b]Credibility [/i:bcbe0d841b]issue for TSN. It just looks stupid...

I didn't realize the problem had gotten this large. From all of the examples on this thread, there's obviously a lot of this going on...

Oh and a league made up of 12 Polo Fields exudes reality?

Please! This is a game of bleeping "what if?"

Everything from lineups to bunt settings to reliefs settings could be considered "gaming the game" or perhaps more accurately "gaming HAL" or offsetting HAL or whatever.

How many HAL hate threads have there been about this game because HAL make pinch hitting and relief pitcher choices that no manager in real life would ever make? Can anyone even count them all.

You want to fix something, fix HAL.

This is a nonproblem. I am certain however that any problems created by "fixing" it will be real indeed.

Just so I'm clear about this:

Most efforts at this strategy fail miserably. However, when PBTR uses this strategy, his teams win.

So what!

When PBTR doesn't use this strategy, his teams win also!

The relevent constant there is PBTR! - not the strategy.

Now if Kriff or some other manager who can't get out of their own way suddenly became unbeatable then there might be an issue worth pursuing but this is absurd.

I couldn't agree more with OT. Not long ago I played a series in a new league with PBTR. When I clicked on his team I was shocked to see his bullpen had NO IP! The first thing I thought of was "Man I wish I knew how he did that!" So I asked him. He responded back and told me exactly how he did it, the same way he described in the thread above. I was tempted to do it in a new league I started but opted not to and not out of feelings of guilt but the way I wanted to design my team. Had PBTR found a way to "game the game" and kept it to himself, I might have thought it created an unfair advantage for two reasons: not having to spend extra $ on the bullpen and not worrying about placement in the draft for a frenzy with those relievers. If you don't care what relievers you get in the autodraft, it allows you to place priority on other players you might not normally have placed so high. I've listed McEnaney 12th before and not gotten him. Anyway, PBTR shared this info rather than keeping it to himself. Something he could have done. I don't blame PBTR for this glitch, lets just kill HAL!

Interesting reading.

Personnally, I've never seen this strategy work in any leagues I've played...but then again, I haven't played in but about a half dozen public leagues.

The solution is very simple. Just turn on the limit overusage. Until then, this is no different than May getting 500+ AB's, or J. Alou 200-300, Riggs 400+...so on & so on.....

I have never used this approach, nor do I ever intend to. If I ever have to try to resort to "gaming the game" to win...then I'll just quit playing the game. :)

Let me be honest and say that, for whatever reason, these "gaming" teams have never won a ring for me. Perhaps that's karma, which I do strongly believe in (hmmm...) Since my bench is so thin I always seem to get just enough injuries for the important games to curtail my dominance.

Riggo I am fully in support of the rules being changed. I'll even sign a petition if you want. I personally don't think it's a problem but if the majority does, I'm all for closing the loophole.

I do think that we're going to see a lot of people trying this out now that the cat's out of the bag, which means it's time to go back to the bomber teams...

I'll say it again... pitcher overusage is no more unrealistic than being able to rely on Mays for 162 games because of the 680 PA rule or being able to rely on Pete not missing a start because of the 200 IP rule.

We ALL game the game.

NO, we should not turn on the overusage rules. People complain about HAL enough as it is, imagine the sh*tstorm on the boards when managers find out HAL decided to rest one of their studs for a crucial 3-game series. I've played seasons on the PC game with the usage limits turned on and it sucks.

I'm trying this strategy with Adams/Reulbach/Russo/Dean/Walker. However, two of my scrub starters with RP ratings (Hallahan and Faber) that are listed in the rotation keep coming in games to the tune of almost an inning per game. PBTR, how do you prevent that?
