Which would you choose for 1B and 3B?

Postby memphisjohn » Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:24 pm

My home park is Briggs, rest of division is in candlestick, dunn and polo.

Currently I have Bando at 3B and a platoon of Norm Cash and Deron Johnson at 1B.

Possible alternative is Boog at 1B and Willie Jones at 3B.

I have never used Jones, Cash or Johnson before...

Any input is greatly appreciated.

BTW, I was able to get N. Fox and Cuyler as free agents...

Can't speak to Briggs, but at Baker, Cash has been .250-.270 with 35-43 HRs. OBP .300-.315 .

Didn't platoon him and he held up fine Vs LHP.

Could you stomach Roenicke's D at 3B in a platoon? Lots of pop one way.

Good luck.

I suggest you post your team, answers are based upon the rest of the roster IMHO.

That said, I would either play Cash everyday or go Minch/Johnson at 1B.

Bando at 3B is very consistent if not excellent in a HR park.

Never used Willie Jones, but he is a bit one-sided unless you expect to see 50% LH SPs.

Keep Cash

Postby geekor » Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:55 pm

Someone else (I forgot who but thank you) turned me on to Cash and it helped net me my 2nd title. If you want a #6,7 hitter who will belt 45+ hr's in a hitters park, then get keep Cash. I haven't been disappointed with him yet. Yes his BA and OBP won't be great, but 45+ hr's with over 100 rbi's each time for less than 3 mil, not a bad deal.

Thanks for the input.

Here's the team. My last few teams have been extreme pitching teams, so I though I would try something different. I am wanting to try a 5 man rotation of decent starters. I have Vance right now, because I dropped a 5th 4M starter so I could pick up Fox and Cuyler when they became available.

I would play Cah both ways as well. I do it a lot and he always performs. Save the money from the platoon. Your going to get killed in Dunn w/o some more LH bats, so playing him both ways helps there as well.

Cash is ok but I might I suggest taking a look at Tony Perez. If your going to have a 15 gamer at 1st and want better obp , more rbi's then Tony is the man . If your only looking for the "HR" gratification then stay with Cash .

If you get rid of johnson and trim your subs down to nickel guys, you would have over 7 mil in trading in Cash for another firstbaseman. Or almost 5 mil to upgrade your starting pitching. I also use Cash quite a bit but I never platoon him. Just depends if you want to use the money on pitching or not.

Unfortunately there aren't many LHB to choose form right now. Sounds like a do something with the cash I have tied in Johnson right now and everybody's OK wiht Bando. I'll see what options unfold over the next couple of days...

Thanks for the help..

Outfield looks great, Cash can do it both ways, dump Johnson and use the cash elsewhere.

Bush does not fit your park (nor does Gibson to a lesser extent).

Can you use the money to upgrade at SS and/or Catcher. Guys with a little more pop (Sherm Lollar, Rich Gedman, Lance Parrish???).

Not sure about Stange, but like the rest of your staff, Vance will do fine for you as your #5 starter (good value for his $$$).
