newbies and the vets are in separate divisions, but keep in mind if you ask a public question than others in your division will know what you want to do also. This is not a straight out tutorial league (i.e. when you teach someone a card game you sometimes have the cards in play visible to all).

As for the veterans having to explain why they did something, I think it should be on a tell if asked situation. So if say, Sykes drops a player to pick up another, he doesnt have to initially announce why, but if posed by a newbie (and only a newbie), he has to give an explanation.

Proposed Poison-"Fishing"

Postby genevajack » Sat Oct 22, 2005 9:16 am

In stead of giving fish to Newbies via handicapping the vets-lets teach them how to fish.

When a vet drops and adds a player-he should explian why. He needs to reveal why he thinks he has a certain player card. This will give the newbies a chance to learn-and will keep the intregrity of the stats intact.

There were some grumblings about Vets only explaining when asked.

Guys I have no problem announcing why I drop a player. Also I think a good idea for a poison pill is no RP under 2mil for a vet. It would cripple me. I rarely use the expensive RP and never more than two.

would like whichever vet team you are assigned to giving the poison pill to, then you can do that and almost whatever you want (other than telling them which stadium to choose).

For those in the league already and those who hopefully will

be joining to complete the league, allow me to say. In another thread, someone posted to the person who decided what league they wanted, that it was up to them to determine what the rules were because you will never have 12 owners agree on everything. With that said, (and I say this not to be a "it's my ball and if you don't do it the way I want I'm going to take it and go home" type of person) everyone has had great ideas so far, but please keep in mind, this is a league I initially started. I agree, it has morphed dramatically from what I intended it to be (but then again the response to what I originally wanted, I deemed was insufficient to complete a league). I will take everything, everyone is saying under consideration so please do not stop making suggestion, but also keep in mind I will need to finalize the rules to this league as this was a league I originally posted.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, and cause anyone not to want to be in the league anymore. It is my hope and my goal, to have this league be a learning league for the newbies, while also still having it be competitive and to give the vets a wrinkle to still get them excited about the league. I look forward to running this league and trying to make it the best I possibly can for not just myself but more importantly for the rest of you (so if I decide to have another team one day, and want to create a league, I will have people hopefully wanting to join because of the enjoyment they got out of this one.

Thank you, and sorry for my long windedness.

I suspect that the league is filling up slowly for one of two resons. First, some newbies may not want to play with vets yet. Maybe they don't understand the value of it. More likely, most newbies play the current 2005 game. They wonder in here with some experience under their belt and want a different challenge.

Why not advertize the league in the strategy section or general discussion. Maybe you can catch some of the fish that don't even know the 80's exist. You would be helping the 80's game as well as helping get other newbies in the league. They are sure to get addicted when they try it.

Guys,

I didn't read back through this entire thread --- but if the objective is for vets to field a competitive team and simply explain moves and help some younger players why we do the STUPID  things we do, then I will be the twelfth player if you want me.

Besides, any league that gives me a chance to go head to head with YountFan and Sykes, I'm always game. I was a rookie one year ago this month, having never played the game. Guys like YountFan, DJTrickster and BJSimpson taught me alot, and i've had 9 playoff teams and won 3 championships in the 80s since.

Thanks,

Sean
