Question about ethics...

In one of my leagues I am about 9 games out of 1st place, and it is game 99. To avoid the 20% drop penalty I wanted to try a trade. Iwanted to trade Will Clark for a similar 1B, so I sent messages to several managers offering to swap firstbasemen (not actual offers just ideas). One manager sent me a crazy proposal wanting my only 2 very good players ( '87 Trammell and one of Tartabull's .900+ OPS cards) and Clark for his very good Cecil Cooper and some filler. I declined then he sent a worse one so I tried to stop the cycle by sending a super-ridiculous one (immature I admit). Well this team is like 32-67, so he made a trade with the 1st place team in my division and made a VERY lopsided trade ( If you look at actual performance) in the favor of the team I'm chasing. Then he sends me messages laughing about how he just made sure I'll never catch up because he helped this other team. He doesn't care that he hurt himself because he was horrible anyway.

The question is...what can be done ????

Well-that really stinks-so I would share the name of this owner with everyone in the community. He'll never get a good trade with me.

In another note-I have a team in one of my leagues just just scuttled itslf down to a $40 million payroll. This will benefit me and the other two teams in my division-but will hurt the rest of the league. Im not a part of any conspiracy-just gaining a benefit-but it stinks nonetheless.

The other guy involved in the trade is Fletch Griswold, who I suspect didn't know anything about this guy's intentions and figured he was just stupid. I hope he can try and undo this unfair trade somehow.

I doubt much can be done although that guy clearly has no sense of sportsmanship. Fletch is one of the best citizens playing 80's and I'm sure if he knew about it before the trade he would have veered away. Luckily this is a rare occurance in 80's. It may be something that you could report to Customer Svc., and perhaps they'll grant you a credit.

I doubt that Fletch knew about the circumstances surrounding the trade. I've been a few leagues with Fletch and he is a great guy. He was very willing to share his knowledge and really helped me learn a few tricks of the trade.

It is hard to police trades. There are some times where I will send a message to the league saying I am going to drop, fill in the name, and if you want him you can have him. The idea is to avoid the cap hit. I don't think anything can be done about stopping trades other than moving up the trade deadline, which is why it is earlier in the majors.

It sounds like he did it with a little bit of malice if he was emailing you and taunting you. I wonder if he broke anything in the user agreement regarding taunting by email. I think that is worse than the actual trade.

No question that Fletch is a good guy and great manager and I'm sure he wouldn't have made the trade had he known what this other guy was saying to others. That being said, any time a trade is made in a standard league by an unknown 32-67 team with a 1st place team it should raise some questions. Of course, I don't know what I would have done (I'm in the same league, 58-44), but I think the best thing to do would be to reject the trade and send a message to all in the league. Hindsight, of course.

that is not excatly an unfair trade. Given the cards it could be more than fair. You cannot always go by the names or the dollars. But what does the trade mean to each team, better defense, a bit for money for other moves, players that fix park/division better. Too many factors to eally say it was unfair.
