Labor Ratings trash talk section

I've done the best I could given the park situation. Don't have much in the way of expectations, the park variable renders me a fish out of water. But I will say this. My lefties should cause PBTR to reevaluate Bris Lord.

In for a long season!

Postby tkl33 » Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:18 pm

Had a horrible draft...Just dropped my #1 waiver pick...Missed the after waivers frenzy...Have no bullpen...Hate my lineup...Just all-in-all don't like my team very much... :?

Should be good for about 90 wins! :P

Good luck to all and have fun.

Well, off to a good start, not that it means much. It's a looong season.

I may not be around for a few days. I *have* to get some things done and prepping for this team was something I really didn't have time for, but I did it anyway. I know I owe Petro some comments on the other thread. :( I'll get to it! :)

So, in my absence, you guys post who you think are the favorites are. I'll post the league ratings sometime after I see a few predictions!!

Tim, it should be obvious to you by now that this game is not about 'fun.' Please try to remember to gear up your foam-at-the-mouth competitiveness.

If tkl's team can perform like that on a regular basis - I doubt he has anything to worry about ... my offense on the other hands ...

BTW, recently saw [i:dedcdc3f4c]Metropolis [/i:dedcdc3f4c]in a restored version on a huge screen with live orchestra (at the Gasteig, Doug). What a fantasic experience. Hence my team name. A true classic of cinema.

I guess when you don't crunch numbers or read cards, there's time to do things like that? Hmmm, interesting.

Well, I had a bunch of (more important?) things going on at work on Monday, so I didn't get home until after 9ET which meant I was still fixing my team right thru and past the 10PM lineup deadline...

Still I went 2-1...

My late managerial moves meant... (a) HAL decided on his own lineup and manager settings, and (b) my starters for games 1-3 were based on whatever "snapshot" was taken of my roster somewhere along the way
(e.g. Mathewson was on my team for about 10 minutes, but he was "in" the snapshot and thus started one of the games... of course with no loyalty knowing he had already been released, he gave a half-hearted effort and lost the game easily)

Because everything was in flux and no settings were saved, there were plenty of unusual decisions, performances, strategies, etc., which I realized is certainly one way to defeat the ratings- as they would never ever account for some of these occurences:

- Wild Bill Hallahan served as my closer, saved game 1
- Lou Whitaker was leadoff... went 5-10, 2 walsk, 5 runs
- HAL took the liberty of substituting defensively at SS with Joost 2e30 coming in the game to replace my 2e31... (now that's not taking chances)

- Cesar Geronimo is trying out a new role in ATG-3, that of HR hitting vlaue CF'er... he's leading my team in HR's (OK, with just 1, but the numbers crunchers would tell me he's on pace for 54 HR's... at least if he faces Blyleven 54 more times :P )

- After never getting enough playing time at 1B (platoon, injury risk, etc.), McCovery is trying to become a 5 tool player... McCovey hits a grounder and races to first JUST beating out the relay on a poitential DP ball.. then proceeds to swipe 2nd base, and thus is now leading my team in SB's... and only Ty Cobb has more SB's than McCovey so far this season... (ok, McCovery only has one, but again, JTJ and PBTR tell me that he too is on pace for 54!).

Geronimo isn't rated on his 6 HR's power, and McCovey isn't rated well for his C-stealing and 12 running... but "ratings be damned" I say
