Annual Card Speculation Thread

Annual Card Speculation Thread

Postby worrierking » Thu Sep 21, 2006 9:43 am

Each September we start looking at the stats and drool over some of the upcoming SOM cards and wondering if some of the part-timers will get cards. I figured it was time to get the speculation rolling.

Two guys whose stats have caught my eyes: Steven Drew and Luke Scott.

Scott at present is hitting .382 and slugging .700 in 170 ABs. He'll get a strat card although I can't say for sure he'll be included in the TSN game. I think he will. He is hitting .367 vs. LH and .386 v.s the righties so he shouldn't be one-sided (although all his HRs are against RH). Those extra base hits are sick and even if he slumps in the last two weeks, he'll have an amazing card.

Drew has seven triples in 178 ABs, so his card will also be awesome. he's hitting above .300 both ways although he's better against LH. He should be an interesting card too.

Have at it guys.

Can't wait to see Papelbon's card and alot of others.......Verlander will probably cost a bundle......Ryan Howards will be a monster card and cost over 10 mil...........Some of the lesser know guys who should have nice cards...at the top of my list anyway...Ty Wigginton.he has had a pretty nice year for my beloved Devil Rays.....I can picture it now..a pitching staff like this:

Justin Verlander
Scott Kazmir
Johan Santana
Francisco Liriano

Papelbon to close:

And then I'll have about 30 mil left to get the rest of my team

Freddy Sanchez will be a doubles machine.

J.J. Putz oughta be good.

Nick Johnson could finally be a 600 PA guy.

Garrett Atkins should be nice.

Matt Holiday has nice #'s.

The Big Hurt will be a monster, especially vs. RH's.

Beltran will come back with a good card.

Morneau has good #'s.

Sizemore has great #'s but will most likely need a platoon vs. LH's.

Jose Reyes will have a much better card.

Agree on Howard - not just because he's a bomber, but he's hitting everywhere (i.e., should have a lot of natural HRs) and his card will be made up of Ks, BBs, and HRs - he seems to never hit the ball in play.

Freddy Sanchez isn't only hitting for average, he has 50 doubles. This guy should be great in a pitcher's park. Speaking of which, can anyone imagine Nick Johnson with 1 Inj. rating? Crazy times.

Abreu should have a monster card. His walks versus righties will make him a superb leadoff man, and now that he's a Yankee, his fielding should improve to 2 (-5)

Estaban German (.342 .432 .483) may be next year's Chris Duffy.

Bonds is batting .267 but has an OBP of .458. Should be an interesting card.

David Ross vs. Lefties; Daryle Ward vs. Righties.

Chris Duncan should be a stud.

David Dellucci should have a nice hitter's park card.

I think some of the rookies might have some really good cards.

Dan Uggla and Zimmerman come to mind as well as Chris Duncan.

Drew as mentioned above should be pretty darn good as well.

Some of the Dodger rookies come to mind as well. Nomar's card should be real good def. for 1b as well as his obp.

I am stating this without looking at stats so I could be off on a couple of these guys.

Some Red Sox observations:They should have some good pitchers park guys
1)Papelbon-no big deal IMO. He'll be great, but so have many relievers in past years(Gagne for example). How about Wagner this year. Been there and done that.
2)Agon-has played an amazing SS this year, with only six errors. He has made ALL the sensational plays as well as all the routine plays. Maybe a 1e8 or e10?
3)Lowell-Will approach 50 doubles and 20 HR's with only six errors at 3B
4)Youkliss-nice OBP, 13 HR's, 40+ doubles w/ only five errors at 1b.
5)Scilling & Beckett have very big home/away HR splits with only 5 and 10 of their 28 and 34 HR's allowed being hit in Fenway. Should have lots of #HR to be negated in pitchers parks.
6)Big Papi-50+ HR's(20 at home) in a tough park to hit them, as only 15 of Becketts & Schillings 62 HR's allowed have been hit at Fenway. Not sure how many of the 15 by lefthanded hitters.

Funny, last night, I was just thinking what Jermaine Dye's card might look like.

Some more Red Sox observations.....They Suck again!

Had to throw that in there. And don't get mad.....you would have done it too.

Robinson Cano should be great @ 2B. He wil finidh with 40 doubles and he missed 6 weeks. If he gets a 2 range he could be decently priced with an injury roll.

I doubt Luke Scott will get a card. You need at least 200 ABs and not be out of line with previous performance. He would be the best hitter in the set if TSN let him play, and it would be too weird to have him in the set.
