The objective is two fold, a learning experience is one, and two is to create a level playing field, and make it interesting for the vets. So seanreflex if you are willing to "swallow" the poison pill like the rest of the vets, than welcome. If not, I'm sorry, but maybe we can be in a league together down the road.

If you want in, please copy and paste the league and include your name, and lottery state as well in the West.

OK, gentlemen. I'm in --- I read the thread, but I'm not sure -- am I supposed to pick my own poison, or is that to be assigned to me by the rookie managers? Either way I'm good --- I'd rather it be assigned to me than for me to generate it, but it doesn't matter a whole lot. I'll hold off on selecting a stadium until I know my poison, if thats legal.

Also, there are so many things mentioned, have any "poisons" been assigned to the veterans yet?

Sean, in a nutshell (tomorrow I will give all the details)

the rules are simple, it's a regular DH league except the vets will be paired based on their lottery results. The pairing will then decide what the other owner's poison pill is. The poison pill can be anything and it can be multiple parted. In addition, the vets are obligated to answer nebies questions, and all questions must be asked and answered in a public forum. Vets need to give bried explanation why they make a certain move (i.e. dropping a player and then picking up a free agent, they would explain why they picked up thatFA and why they dropped that player). As for the poison pills, there have been a lot mentioned and those items are all just ideas, you can come up with whatever poison pill you would like.

Lastly, I am deciding exactly the rule on this but either we will have a "raid", since we only have 4 newbie owners, prior to game 81 a newbie owner can raid a vet team of any player and that team must accept the trade (as long as it meets TSN requirements). A newbie will be able to do this three times, but each time that newbie owner must raid a different vet team (so in effect, vet teams can lose up to 4 players during the first half of the season). This rule is still being formulated, I am deciding if that is to many players for a vet owner to lose, or if we should lower than "raids" or even have vets be forced to drop a player each time the salary rate changes instead. If you have any comments let me know, but please keep in mind I retain the right of final decision.

I think it would be fairest to have each "vet" swallow the same pill. And Sykes offer, sounded good, making sure to draft players no one wanted, accepting any trade from "rookie," but with only the 5 rooks (if you count Chief), and 5 vets now...... but now, even if you pull 2 more "rooks" and they face TRich and Sean, that seems to put them at a disadvantage... Maybe we can split the Rooks up amongst the division and let them raid from the teams ahead of them in the standings..... but you also have to have a way of determining who gets first crack at a stud player....

was? And personally, it doesn't look like we are going to have any newbies joining, so I was assuming the final 2 spots would be taken by vets making 4 newbies and 8 vets. I still like the idea each vet has a different pill. If we end up getting 2 more newbies instead of vets, your right we might need to revisit the issue you raise.

This will be my sixth team all told and fifth in the 80's. If you want to count that as a vet, that is fine. When I joined, I thought it was open to players with less than 8 teams.

I don't mind having a poison pill, but I am not going to be in if teams get to "raid" my team. I don't have enough experience to replace players with viable option I don't think. That is why I wanted to have the vets in here anyway.

I believe rather than a poison pill, it would be better to have the ability to ask questions of the vets, and have them tell us why they are doing certain things. Having a poison pill might cause them to not do something they usually do. I THINK AS NEW PLAYERS WE NEED TO SEE WHAT THE TOP DOGS ARE DOING WITH THEIR TEAMS. Can you see their teams usually? NO. This way you get to see them in action. I played in a league with some of the big guns; IMB, Penngray, and others. I still refer to that league to "wee" things that they did, and try to find out why they did them. The beauty of this league would be the opportunity to see and ask questions. I personally don't even believe a poison pill is needed. I would rather see what the old timers do when they are operating at full capacity.

In summary, I don't mind if I have to swallow a poison pill, but I don't want my team raided, I am not ready for that yet. I expecially need to learn how to manage a pitching staff and bullpen. I need to be able to controll how long I keep people. I think I may be giving up on pitching too fast. If I have to get my team raided, count me out.

Adam,

Why don't you require the vets to maintain a 25 man roster. That way they would still be able to have strong players, but the amount of money would be limited for each player. Common practice is to drop two people before waivers for extra ca$h, well the vets would not be able to do that. Having to maintain a 25 man roster would not cripple the vets but they would have to playe with lesser bargan players. The studs would go to the newbies. On the other hand, vets could have a stud if they wanted to let go of the cap room to have him allowing them to play with anyone they wanted or needed.

anyway, make a decision on what you want. I will be asking a lot of questions while the league is running.

I totally agree on the above. Not crazy about the raid rule. If it will help I will go in with the Vets. I have 2 completed 80's teams, 1 current and 1 to start Monday. I have approx. 20 strat teams total. I am more than willing to join the vet bullring.

I don't like the raid rule. It should only apply to a vet team that has been "poisoned" by another vet if that the is theme imposed on them.

With my squad, to be "forced" to trade players during the season is a little against why I wanted to draft the players I drafted.
