We'll use the website www.penngray.com/draft and set up accounts for everybody in this league. The website will let you make picks, set proxies if you're not around, and has a clock to keep the draft going. With 26 picks it might take up to a week to complete. To keep the draft moving you'll need to be able to get on the internet fairly often and/or set a lot of proxy picks (basically you make lists of players that you want to pick and the top player in that list is automatically selected for you once it becomes your turn to pick). Generally there's a 2 or 4 hour clock during the daytime hours for each pick. Once that 2-4 hours passes, the pick can be skipped and the next manager can make his pick.

I assume the draft will run after we've decided on all the rules and that night's lottery picks. The clock is usually off for the weekend.

DH: Y or N
Salary: 60M or 80M (with an option to vote again after two seasons)
Keep .75'ers?: Y or N

MANAGER--lotto
1. honestiago--TX DH: N SAL: 60M Keep 75ers: Y
2. roofinghorse--KY DH-N/SALARY-80M/75ERS Y
3. sphilipp8 -- CT- DH:(don't care), SAL:80M, 75ers: N
4. jjd77447-OK DH N/Salary-60/75ers Y
5 Billings Ballers - ID DH: N SAL:80M 75er: N
6. MRMS1970 -VA- DH:Y, SAL: $60M (w/ revote after 2), Keep 75ers: Y
7. canauscot - MI DH: N, SAL: $80M, Keep 75ers: abstain
8. Yellow_Dog - NM DH:Y SAL:60M 75ers:Y
9. AdamKatz -NY DH:Y SAL:80M 74ers:Y
10. Rutkap - MO
11. jsamia - NH Sal: $80, NO DH, Keep .75 No
12. LMBombers - DC DH:(don't care), SAL:80M, 75ers: N

I think the full implication of using most of the original decade rules still needs to be understood. Those wondering 'how many keepers' should know that Decade rules means you can keep the whole team if you want (other than retirement by virtue of not having a season on your card at least as late as the current year), or you might choose to release someone to add your latest drafted rookie.
Since the vote seems to be that you can keep 75ers should we not amend the general Decade rule where you are allowed to get any 75er regardless of their actual career span, and treat them like everyone else (only eligible in the years between the first and last of their 5 carded seasons)?

Question: If we are quasi-live drafting initially, how do we control that a $80M budget is adhered to?

Now I can live with the rules we've gotten to, and don't want to rock the boat (too much  ) but I do feel bad for honestiago. The poor guy started out with a keeper league and some neat ideas to mix it up like free-agency. He's had his league hi-jacked (hail democracy), but I can live with the least intrusive suggestion for free agency. I like LMBomber would have been perfectly happy to play an exact Decade league...but...honestiago's least intrusive free agency idea, whereby 9 of your end-of-season players are [i:b7f08ffab7]possibly[/i:b7f08ffab7] subject to free-agency is kinda fun (out of a roster of 25 or so, you are still protecting your favourite approx. 16, and will only have to give up a couple of the 9...and know for that season in advance who it is. That's not too bad is it Bomber? I think the retirement issue is well covered in the Decade league, and over 10 seasons if you've got someone subject to injury, he'll be injured plenty enough, without loading more injuries of our own. As far as $80M vs $60M goes, I understand the desire of veteran players to play with different players once in a while (I suggest joining my "Cheapskates" $60M no-DH league), but in a 10 season commitment, I want to play with the players I started playing this Strato thing for (I want to play with Reggie Jackson not Reggie Jefferson!).
They're coming to take me away now, so when I get my privileges back I'll ramble some more...

80M is better

Postby honestiago1 » Thu Sep 28, 2006 8:35 am

By popular demand, the salary cap is 80M. I thought about this a LOT last night, and believe this is a good move. Roster moves would be hard to make with a 60M league. I wish we could do 70M. That would give enough toom for moves while still forcing decisions.

.75's are keepers, the vote being 6 for, 4 against, and an one abstaining. That's a majority, even if rutkap votes no.

I will say this: it's a tad disheartening to have every idea I've offered slammed down. I'll play the league (but I won't trade with LM!
:D ). We'll see how this works. In any case, I won't be doing the GM stuff, as this league in no way resembles what I had in mind. No hard feelings about that. That's the way it goes.

Anyway, when's the draft? I'll be out of pocket most of today.

Good luck, everyone.

FYI

Postby BC Manager » Thu Sep 28, 2006 9:38 am

Just wanted to let you guys know there was a reason we made .75 players available every year -- in the really thin years (1981/1989, for example), there were not enough players available for everyone to make a valid roster -- I believe teams would've been short pitchers, catchers and possibly middle infielders. So, we made all the scrubs available to fill in these gaps. We figured using them every year would have the least impact on the original concept. It's worked well.

Just didn't want you to find that out the hard way.

I for one was very intersted in the twist you were offering for the league. I felt they would make it more challenging, but i am a rookie to online strat and maybe my imput means nothing. And I know who Reggie Jefferson was he was MR. September right.
Like I have said I will go with what eveyone else wants but I do think some of honestiago ideas coudl have mafe it intersting.

I like it! Works for me. :D

Honestiago, Why would you want to play in a series of seasons if you are not interested in actively participating? I'm not the final answer to how the league is run either. I am just a participant that was voicing my thoughts. Now I feel bad that I have ruined your league. :(

Maybe we should have a seperate Decade league from your keeper league idea and everyone who has signed up can go into either one or both?

The way canauscot described your FA idea sounds pretty interesting to me.
