sorry it's you, but glad I could titty twist somebody. just three rounds in its obvious you can't wait on anybody. houston street's great, but atleast he wasn't high on my list! turtle's probably saving that for the pick just before mine, which if everyone picks like I did, will be half a day from now. im on line for about another hour, if we don't get back to me by then, ill set proxies and hope they're used.

AL Talent Pool vs NL Talent Pool

Postby Al Hogg » Fri Sep 29, 2006 12:50 pm

The Strat-o-Matic set contains 421 AL players with a collective salary of $917.15 million, or $65.5 million per team.

Four-hundred fifty-eight NL players have a collective salary of $1,035.80 million, or $64.7 million per team.

The seeming thinness of the AL talent pool is, I think, a result of trying to draft 12 teams from the roster of 14 major league teams, as opposed to 16 major league teams. The fact that we need to fill nine hitting positions (including DH) as opposed to just eight might also play a role.

That is, at any rate, why we needed to shrink the salary cap from $80 million to $72 million.

Youkilis

Postby TomSiebert » Fri Sep 29, 2006 1:56 pm

Yup...last guy left in the AL on the entire first two pages of SoM rosters for OBA....a doubles machine....only downside the W-power vs. righties, though he almost makes up for it with all the two baggers....so many players I want to take, so few will be left by the time it circles back around to me....but the idea that we're going to be playing with 12 teams and there are only 14 teams' rosters to pull from is very cool...

Youkilis was the last sleeper stud in the pool for my money; early on in these dog-eat-dog drafts, I'll try to grab an unexpected bargain because it frees up money and you never know how far he'll last. Frank Thomas and Youkilis were my two sleeper guys, and Meat beat me (so to speak) to one of them. But with the limited pool, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to spend $72M anyway.

Meat: Wanna trade Youkilis for Thomas?

I'm glad I could disappoint some folks by taking DeJesus.

I'm operating on the assumption that we're on hold until Calbatross gets home from his plane trip tonight.
