ANOTHER DAGGER THROUGH THE HEART ! CURSE YOU SGTD!!!

Postby TomSiebert » Mon Oct 02, 2006 12:53 pm

EVEN ALFONSO SORIANO now....2b is going to be a black hole....Wow. Not only are all the remaining players flawed, there's no BP that really does it for me either. Can you say....Booby Prize season? Got all the makings....1st round draft is ace pitcher -- who can only pitch every fifth game....2nd round is killer closer who might not matter much....3rd round slugger can't field and can get hurt for 15 games....4th rounder is merely okay #2 starter...not enough OBA....not enough slugging....defense is nothing special...this could be the worst team I've ever fielded....I've been playing defense on the draft since the first round....already open-minded to any trade talks....HELP!!!

It's the same for all of us really...

Postby calbatross » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:59 pm

We are all drawing from the same simmering stewpot...whoever among us is the most wise in use of spices and seasonings can make a tasty dish out of this dreadful slop of a talent pool.

I'm just a little disappointed we haven't made it further along by now. I made significant (and costly) efforts to keep this thing moving during my trip, yet we barely inched. If anyone is not loading proxies and knows of a stretch of time where they won't be able to check in on the draft, would it hurt to post a note on the bb and let us know your status, as I have tried to do? (I am not calling anyone out individually...there have been several of us)

Aside from that little vent, I am enjoying this draft quite a bit and, of course, having played an NL season with you all I am looking forward to the continued competition and entertainment.

That all said, I have another trip coming up Thursday through the weekend (not quite as exciting as Montreal). I hope we can get most of this done by Thursday noon. My unavailable times will be Thursday noon until late night, then Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until late night (all times Central).

I agree Cal...ive made the addictive move of actually paying for internet time at one of those airport booths, getting so caught up in a draft. if you can't be around, PLEASE PROXY! im tempted to shorten the clock. there's no excuse for stalling during normal working hours. even the weekend went faster than this. ive been sitting on my pick all day!

well balmer, atleast you can take some satisfaction in knowing you plucked rhodes off my board, although I don't think i could even take him in these next two corner kicks, so he would have been gone either way. don't see how I can spend close to 72million now without rhodes or sweeney.

In defense of some....

Postby TomSiebert » Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:09 pm

I can totally see putting in a bunch of proxies and they're all gone by the time you check in a couple hours later.

That said, the main reason I picked Rhodes at this point is simply to keep anybody else in my division from getting him and to get close to the cap. His card is terrific, but he'll never get the innings to justify the cost.

I'm still smarting over Soriano. And I'll give props to Calbatross -- he had a draft strategy and stuck to it; no matter what kind of pitchers he ends up getting, with that defense, the WHIP will be low.
