SBC?

Anyone win a championship in SBC? I'd like to put together a good SBC team, and I'd like to build from someone elses experience. After AROD, who are some good fits?

I have played McAfee and Fenway quite a bit, which are very similar. I don't think Arod is that good a fit. I wouldn't think of him right off hte bat for Fenway either. Too much lost #HR for $13.00. Top pitchers to consider:
Zambrano-will always be good on any decent team
Carpenter-Ditto Zambrano for $1.00 less
Peavy
Byrd
Weaver
Radke
Any RH similar to above or a reverse righty. You should make it a point to get Carpenter IMO. Almost a guaranteed 20 wins for relatively cheap.
For hitters, you want LH slap guys and solid righties. The trick is working in the lefties in a league where there could be 3-5 LH parks. This also affects your pitching choices greatly.

Helton-great fit but I only used in $100 league due to too much $$$ on a LH hitter

Arod
Giles
Shelton
Belliard
D Lee
Any RH hitter who hits RH pitching
One thing I have tried is a reverse hitting platoon to get LH hitters in my lineups. A platoon on G Anderson/Guillen in LF worked well. I figure you face more RH at home where Guillen can pound away on the RH, and more LH in LH parks where Anderson can have success.

Who did you draft? You don't really even have anyone on your team I would list in my top 10 picks for SBC.

I tried for Carpenter, Peavy, Vlad and Pujols...now I am 3rd on the waiver wire! I got zero out of my top 4 and ended up with Helton who you recommended was too expensive. :)

Zambrano SP ; Tejada SS; Polanco 3B; Guillen RF are all possibilities on the wire as is Shelton 1B. I also need a cheap reverse RHP to help out against one club in my division.

Oh well...any advice is welcome. It's my 1st 2006 team and I'd like to get off to a good start.

I've had good success with Papelbon, in the right parks.

My 2 pennies...

I'd keep Garland, Weaver and Byrd. Then maybe use Papelbon (if you get him) and another cheap SP in the 4th. spot. (Moyer around?)


Radke should go and keep Benoit as an emergency SP, but mainly as a RP.

You need help in the pen. I like R. Hernandez here.


Dump Helton. Overpriced IMO. 1B is a deep position this season. Overbay is a nice non-BP dependant lefty bat here. Maybe even Dan Johnson. Snow on the very cheap end...

I like Giles and Rollins up the middle.

Lowell, if you keep him, needs a platoon. Mora and Glaus should do well here. Betemit with a platoon, is becoming one of my favorite players in 2006. He rakes vs. RH's.

Burrell is OK, but he's MUCH better vs. LH's, IMHO. I don't have my ratings book with me right now, just coming from experience.

Hunter gives you great D and a decent bat vs. LH's when he's healthy. The key phrase...when he's healthy. I like Tavares, but he too needs a platoon. (Logan?)

Thomas @ DH, hit's LH's a bit better and will get hurt alot. Also for a park that gives up BP singles to righties, the Big Hurt doesn't have any. Thames is a decent big bat as well and will supply HR's in the right park, but he's got ZERO BP singles as well vs. RH's.

Things are cleaning up. I'm pretty happy about my SPs and RPs, eventhough I'm considering downgrading to someone like Linebrink and using the money to go after a relatively cheap ~3M closer.

Lineup is also set...should be using speed as often as possible to improve the team BA a tad with up to 6* players in the lineup.

The Big Hurt (the real 2006 AL MVP) is backed up by Thames and Fick, while Davannon should be sufficient to spell my CF.

If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

No need to answer...I'm pretty sure I know which one. My thought was to go for Linebrink/Hermanson instead of my current combo. I would bring in Linebrink as early as the 7th, slow hook and limit Hermanson for the 9th.

With my current guys: I was going to leave setup blank and bring in the big dog in the 8th with a slow hook.

I suppose either strategy could work, but I'd appreciate any advice I get.
