Poison Pill League - Is FULL - Let The Games Begin

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

My teams

Postby genevajack » Tue Oct 25, 2005 7:49 am

Adam-I have over 20 teams total but just two '80s teams (my poorest showing at .500 collectively). Would I be classified a vet? If so-my lottery state is IL.

Alright, it is apparent that the raid rule is not in favor,

Postby AdamPhoenix » Tue Oct 25, 2005 8:00 am

and therefore, the raid rule is taken off the table.

As for Chief, I am sorry, when you said you were putting your team in the Central, I just assumed you were a vet. My apologizes for that confusion.

Question, I throw out there to you owners is...if we can get 6 newbies and 6 vets, should we have 2 and 2 in each division?

And, I'm sorry I like the poison pill idea, it not only allows us newbies to learn from the vets but also requires the vets to try different strategies or things they may not always do, and therefore both newbies and vets learn.

And Sykes, to be fair, whoever you are matched with in the poison pill phase can decided what pill to give you.

I like the idea of people, vets and newbies alike, explaining why they made a move. The vets and help and everyone wins. I'd be open to having new guys ask for opinions before they make a move.

A poision pill is OK, but forced trade really suck big time. I rather have salary limits (no player over X, no player less than Y, etc), roster limits (forced to carry 27 players etc).

I also like the idea of a vet divison and two newbie divisions. Send messages to your leagues and ask them to join. We only need a few.

YF...unless people dropped out, we only need two more

Postby AdamPhoenix » Tue Oct 25, 2005 2:25 pm

owners to complete all 12. After careful consideration, I agree with you, the poison pill can not involve forced trades, and there will be no "raids' by newbies.

But the poison pill is still in effect.

Would be nice to have 8 newbies, except for the 4 of us in the east and Chief in the central, no Back to the 80's newbie has stepped up since this league has been announced.

Currently the "New Owner-Poison Pill" League looks like this

Postby AdamPhoenix » Tue Oct 25, 2005 2:30 pm

East
1- Massachusetts Midnight Riders - Yankee Stadium
2- Honestiago - Somerset Bulldogs - Candlestick Park
3- Genevajack-Jack Murphy-Elmer Fudds
4- Jet40 - Milford Mashers- Kingdome

Central
1-Sykes
2- Yount Fan
3- Chief78 - Tiger Stadium
4- Rooksa1958

West
1- T.Richardson
2- Seanreflex
3-
4-

So, effectively there are two open spots, and if we moved Chief into the West with 3 other newbie (provided we can find them), one of the vets would need to back out (and unfortunately, if one of the vets didn't step up, it would have to be Seanreflex since he is the last one to join - Sean dont go anywhere, I was just making a point).

I will advertise in the strategy forum again, but I don't know where else to find newbies, that is why I am thinking it might be easier to find two vets to join.

Hey All, Would love to join this ever increasing learning experience most likely for some of us but I understand some of the best of the best are in this league so would love to have you show me how the proper way is to play this game. I definitely want to be a part of it and with my entry, you will be within 1 of drafting. RohnB
OK, gentlemen. I'm in --- I read the thread, but I'm not sure -- am I supposed to pick my own poison, or is that to be assigned to me by the rookie managers? Either way I'm good --- I'd rather it be assigned to me than for me to generate it, but it doesn't matter a whole lot. I'll hold off on selecting a stadium until I know my poison, if thats legal.

Also, there are so many things mentioned, have any "poisons" been assigned to the veterans yet?

Report abuse Sean, in a nutshell (tomorrow I will give all the details) 24 Oct 2005 20:25

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the rules are simple, it's a regular DH league except the vets will be paired based on their lottery results. The pairing will then decide what the other owner's poison pill is. The poison pill can be anything and it can be multiple parted. In addition, the vets are obligated to answer nebies questions, and all questions must be asked and answered in a public forum. Vets need to give bried explanation why they make a certain move (i.e. dropping a player and then picking up a free agent, they would explain why they picked up thatFA and why they dropped that player). As for the poison pills, there have been a lot mentioned and those items are all just ideas, you can come up with whatever poison pill you would like.

Lastly, I am deciding exactly the rule on this but either we will have a "raid", since we only have 4 newbie owners, prior to game 81 a newbie owner can raid a vet team of any player and that team must accept the trade (as long as it meets TSN requirements). A newbie will be able to do this three times, but each time that newbie owner must raid a different vet team (so in effect, vet teams can lose up to 4 players during the first half of the season). This rule is still being formulated, I am deciding if that is to many players for a vet owner to lose, or if we should lower than "raids" or even have vets be forced to drop a player each time the salary rate changes

Ok, here is the deal. First, Rohn how many "Back To the 80's

Postby AdamPhoenix » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:19 am

Teams" have you had? Depending on your answer you will be eithe considered a newbie or a veteran. Currently the following owners are newbies:
1- Massachusetts Midnight Riders - Yankee Stadium - MA
2- Honestiago - Somerset Bulldogs - Candlestick Park
3- Genevajack-Jack Murphy-Elmer Fudds
4- Jet40 - Milford Mashers- Kingdome
5 Chief78 - Tiger Stadium
6 RohnB - Busch Stadium - Team Name St. Louis Browns

Currently the veterans are:
1-Sykes
2- Yount Fan
3-Rooksa1958
4-T.Richardson
5-Seanreflex - NH

If anyone feels they are listed in the wrong spots, let me know. Hopefully we will have one more veteran joining so we will have 6 newbies and 6 vets. We will have a lottery based on a given nights Pick 3, therefore, for those that have not choosen a state yet, please copy and past the newbie and vet lists above and add your state. Rember only one state per owner.

The draft will work two folds, first since we will have hopefully 6 newbies and 6 vets, we will have three divisions of two newbies and two vets. Therefore the state draft will go from hi to low. The highest two vet totals go in the east, the next two highest vet totals in the Central, and the two lowest vet totals go in the West. The newbies will follow the same pattern.

As for the poison pill, only the vets will be subjected to them, and they will be given to a vet by another vet. This will be decided by the highest vet lottery total (i.e. Vet East Team #1) giving the third highest vet (i.e. Vet Central Team #1) total its poison pill and vice a versa. The 2nd hghest vet (East Tean #2) total will give to the fifth highest vet total (West Team #1) and vice-a-versa. And finally the fourth highest vet (Central Team #2) will give to the vet (West #2) with the lowest total. I'm sorry for this confusion, however this ensures that two teams in the same division will not be giving each other a posion pill.

The remaining rules, are basically this is a DH league, veteran players are required to answer any newbies questions and must give a brief explanation as to why they made a certain roster move. Basically the restt is regular TSN rules. BTW, there will be no raiding of vets teams, and the poison pills that were already mentioned in prior posts are just ideas, each individual vet owners is at liberty (within in reason of course) to come up with there poison pill to give to another owner.

Any further questions or comments, let me know.
