YIKES!!!! Shifting Sands Draft Thread

Postby FoggyOne » Fri Oct 13, 2006 11:01 am

I understood those rules to be in the alternative; 1 point if he is blak.....more if he played in a certain era....more if he is in HOF etc. i.e., no double-dipping.

My understanding is that we are trying to end up with a substantially african american team with a Jewish person too. Kind of like.......[INSERT POLITICALLY INCORRECT STATEMENT HERE].

this isnt really possible for 12 teams. there arent enough black players to go around. if this is the rule, this is going to be very difficult if not impossible for 12 teams to adhere to.

Still not sure. I need an official ruling on Banks points, since he IS black, he DID play before 54, he DID play in the negro leagues, and he did play for the Monarchs. Maybe 10, with no double dipping for negro leagues and Monarchs, since the others are not related.

My intent was the more limited view(see note in other thread copied here in part):

[b:1c3605d2b1]In review there seem to be two things that are not clear. My intent was to have the 1/2/3/5 points for the black players not to be cumulative(makes it harder). My intent was that the first name, last name and nickname match be 1 point to be for each match so a player with the last name of Brown would match Ray and Willard Brown for 2 points.

A reminder as was noted before first name variations would be matches so Jim matches jimmy matches james, willie matches willard matcheswilliam etc. [/b:1c3605d2b1]

Was not intended to be a big obstacle, just did not want it too be way too easy. I think the 1 player per team creates issues but really see the 36 points as being if anything too easy.

It was intended that you need to match one of the 35 plus Buck that were there for their negro league accomplishments as the HOF lists them on their website(which does not include Doby, Robinson, Aaron etc) but that was probably not clear since the only way to see the 35 I was referring to was in the link.

Poorly drafted rules though are subject to the interpretation of the court(you) so it is your call ultimately.

Largely guys at this point, whatever. The easy part is getting all the complaints and the more problematic part only one complaint. Change it in whole or in part.

The intent would have been for this scoring so far:

Ruth-[b:6d0a54d343]2 [/b:6d0a54d343]points (one of the negro league players was named George and one for the R
Willie Mays: 2 points for first name(Willie Wells and Willard Brown and then either 3 or 5 depending on whether he played for the monarchs) total either [b:6d0a54d343]5 or 7[/b:6d0a54d343]

Banks: 1 for B 5 for the Monarchs and 1 for Ernie matching Negro leaguer with first name of Ernest Total [b:6d0a54d343]7[/b:6d0a54d343]

Larry Doby: 1 for the d and 3 for the Negro leagues Total [b:6d0a54d343]4[/b:6d0a54d343]

Of course it could easily be interpreted differently and since the law would construe it against the drafter, a more liberal interpretation of the points is reasonable and fine by me as well

SO.... the bottom line is....... is there enough players out there for 12 teams to accumulate 36 points each.... I guess really 21 points since 15 points is a given with team name, manager, and reason for picking the team already done????

am I dreaming, or did someone post an alternate thread of negro leaguers that included recognition of banks, mays and some others having played there, which would increase the hall of fame class, and make it easier to score points. also, would expand the list of negro leaguers who are NOT hall of famers so you could get points for that. I scoured through both threads and can't find it.
