Hi modmark,
As things stand you can now keep:

For seven total players kept you can keep two hitters and one pitcher or two pitchers and one hitter (ratio of 4/3).
You can not keep 3 of any one type (5/2 ratio not allowed).

If you choose to keep only six players you could choose two of either hitters or pitchers or one of each (4/2 or 3/3 ratio).

If you choose to keep only one player it can be anyone of your choice (3/2 ratio)

Don't feel bad, I had to read the rules about 10 times myself before I came to the understanding.
