YIKES!!!! Shifting Sands Draft Thread

since the draft has already started and the rules are in place, maybe we can have salary increments based around the 36 point rule. like for each 2 points you are below 36, you lose $1M off your $100M cap.

that frank robinson pick KILLED! but he wasn't even an option for me in 2nd round because i had to have an a.l. pick. ouch!
ive been putting together a spec roster trying to stay within the dozen myriad rules, and although my pre-draft roster had 36 points, it was not park specific and had no consideration for al/nl 1/2 and 1/2. I can tell you EVERY guy ive picked for a say 1950's pitching staff, or 1960's outfield (IF I'D GOTTEN FRANK ROBINSON AS INTENDED!) NONE of them have had a j/d/r/ or buck oneil iniital in their last name. it's gonna be hard enough compiling a competitve roster against these vultures, and meeting all the other restrictions. it just puts too much emphasis on ONE of the 12 shifts. for instance, I miss out on pie traynor as my 20's 3b to go with hornsby,(somebody would have picked him anyway) because I have a 1 at catcher in howard. but even if i got pie in my face...he'd be ANOTHER zero buck oneil player. lower the point total, it's too restrictive, too much in conflict with meeting other requirements, and there's enough homage paid to these great contributors already.

another example...yamulke rule....every roster must of one of the 12. seven of those guys get exactly ZERO buck oneil points...yeager, weintraub, mayer, shamsky (although art might be worth 1-point) etc. haven't checked the .50 cent starting pitchers yet, but know several of them have M last names. no points.

perhaps we lower the Buck Points minimum AND put a penalty on the lowest Buck Points tems.....say bottom 4 after AD portions runs must punt on their first waivers claim (pick a guy that program wont allow...like a 10m guy when you only have a 5m budget available)?

I won't lower Buck Points on my own bc it is MR BBW theme. If he believes we can do it, then we are committed to try and then go crazy in waivers.

Apparently my rule required you to pick Elston Howard? I must have inadvertantly put that in there. Don't recall it.

There is however more to it than just the letters. A player can score a multitude of points by matching first or last names of the 38(with variations such as willie/bill/william/willard counting as matches. The black/pre54/negro league/monarch points have been considered cumulative to make it even easier. Your backup players do not have to comport to the decades. I have said over and over and over it would not be very difficult. Noone has responded once to that. Just ignore it and say the same thing over and over.

I give up. You automatically get 15 points for the team name/manager/explanation regardless of whether you name your team(don't want to force that on anyone). We'll count first names for the letters as well. We'll lower the number to 25.
