[quote:215a154144] I know Semper will write several pages worth of reasons why it should be some other way!

Of course...when this round is over it will be time to organize March Madness Part Deux. Whoever organizes it can run it in the way they see fit... :D

Wrong Bracket Alignment - According to the Rules

Postby Semper Gumby » Sun Oct 22, 2006 10:26 am

Jimmy,

I beg to differ on the final round bracket alignment. According to your posting last week, you wrote:

[quote:5fe5478667]With some tight races that look like they will come down to the wire, I went back (quite a way back actually) to re-post the RULES. In there you will find the tie-breaker information:

RULES

AUTODRAFT

2nd ROUND

Once we have a field of 36 (or if we start at 36), the four playoff teams will advance along with 4 additional teams in each bracket - determined by best record (giving us a field of 24). The field will be re-seeded after each round, not based on manager ratings, but on record in the previous bracket. Playoff teams will get higher "status."

FINAL

The eight playoff teams will advance along with 2 additional teams from each bracket to give us the final 12. Again, the teams will be seeded based on performance in the field of 24.[/quote:5fe5478667]

FINAL ROUND BRACKET MATH

Once we reached the second and third rounds, the brackets were no longer based on TSN's manager rankings.

[b:5fe5478667]The eight playoff teams will advance along with 2 additional teams from each bracket to give us the final 12. Again, the teams will be seeded based on performance in the field of 24. [/b:5fe5478667]

While using the TSN manager rankings is expedient, Jab's instructions added "[i:5fe5478667]The field will be re-seeded after each round, not based on manager ratings, but on record in the previous bracket. Playoff teams will get higher 'status.'[/i:5fe5478667]"

Based on the final season standings, here is how the teams fell out -

1. Bigdinkent 97 (division winner #2)
2. Moodywoody 96 (division winner #2)
3. Kevin Matchstick 95 (division winner #1)
4. Rigged Splits 89 (division winner #2)
5. BallyWackman 88 (division winner #1)
6. UGLYJERRY 87 (division winner #1)
7. Jimmy_C 88 (WC winner #1)
8. Semper 86 (WC winner #2)
9. tgmfp 86
10. rutkap 86
11. Durantjerry 85
12. BJS73 82

If we bracket based on the rules as posted, then we have -

[b:5fe5478667]EAST[/b:5fe5478667]
1. Bigdinkent 97 (division winner #2)
6. UGLYJERRY 87 (division winner #1)
7. Jimmy_C 88 (WC winner #1)
12. BJS73 82

[b:5fe5478667]CENTRAL [/b:5fe5478667]
2. Moodywoody 96 (division winner #2)
5. BallyWackman 88 (division winner #1)
8. Semper 86 (WC winner #2)
11. Durantjerry 85

[b:5fe5478667]WEST[/b:5fe5478667]
3. Kevin Matchstick 95 (division winner #1)
4. Rigged Splits 89 (division winner #2)
9. tgmfp 86
10. rutkap 86

If we want to wait until the playoffs completed and seed based on the final to give the four finalists the top seeds, fine by me. For example:

[b:5fe5478667]PLAYOFF BOUND [/b:5fe5478667]
1. Bracket Champion (best record)
2. Bracket Champion
3. Final Runner-up (best record)
4. Final Runner-up
5. Semi-Finalist (best record)
6. Semi-Finalist (#2 best record)
7. Semi-Finalist (#3 best record)
8. Semi-Finalist (#4 best record)
9. tgmfp 86
10. rutkap 86
11. Durantjerry 85
12. BJS73 82

Otherwise, initial seeding and overall records to date

[b:5fe5478667]Tourney Seed and Overall Records[/b:5fe5478667]
1. Kevin Matchstick (41) 282-204
2. Moodywoody (11) 277-209
3. Bigdinkent (23) 268-218
4. Semper (43) 261-225
5. Jimmy_C (10) 260-226
6. BallyWackman (30) 257-229
7. rutkap (42) 256-220
8. tgmfp (17) 254-222
9. BJS73 (5) 250-236
10. UGLYJERRY (27) 247-239

[b:5fe5478667]Missing records[/b:5fe5478667]
Durantjerry (28)
Rigged Splits (29)

If I'm "Kevin Matchstick", I'd have a little gas about being the team with the best record over three season but still the lowest seeded team despite being paired with the best seeded team every season.
