I've never started a season with Ray at 2B but have picked him up three times (I think) as a replacement partway through the season and each time he's hit pretty well--good BA and some doubles and triples power.

Wait a second, here are the teams:

Although he's a 3, his errors are low and he's pretty much going to hit RHP in any year. I like him best in a platoon role, but Cruz would make a good platoon partner for him (other options include Buechele and Duncan--some say B Ripken).

Again, I've never actually started a season with Ray, but I've closed a season with Ray/Burleson and Ray seems like a very reasonable choice to me. I wouldn't rule out White, either. He doesn't seem very popular, but he's a 1, and he'll hit some homers and 2Bs for you. His OBP is never great, but you could bat him 7th or 8th and he'll drive in some runs. That plus the D is probably worth the cash.

Went with White and Julio as a back up.

Decided to platoon them to start the season to have a look at Cruz.

Got an injury reveal on White in game 3 eliminating the '82 year, but also got a HBP result on him eliminating the '85 year. A week into the season he's hitting .087 with 1 extra base hit. Meanwhile Cruz is thumping lefties. Ray is still available so I'm taking the plunge w/Ray. The team is doing well (12-6 so far) w/White not hitting. Hopefully, Ray can kick it up a notch.
