Poison Pill League - Is FULL - Let The Games Begin

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Well, I guess miracles do happen. The New Owner - Poison

Postby AdamPhoenix » Sat Oct 29, 2005 11:58 pm

Pill League has now reached 12 owners. Thank you to everyone who has decided to participate in this interesting and hopefully fun (and yes, even educational) format, where us newbies have an opportunity to learn from you vets and you vets will have the opportunity to show what your really made of (and who know maybe even take home some bragging rights).

First, the official list of all owners competing in this league. Please note all new owners will be inserted into the East. Only made sense since we had 4 truly new owners. As for the 6 vets, we will run the lottery for you (explained later), and since it really doesn't matter which division either Rohn or UglyJ go into since one will be in the Central and one will be in the West, since Rohn entered first he will be in the Central and UglyJ will be in the West. I have included at the end the of the teams which division they will be in.

New Owners (Beginners)
1. Massachusetts Midnight Riders - Yankee Stadium (EAST)
2- Genevajack-Jack Murphy-Elmer Fudds (EAST)
3- Jet40 - Milford Mashers- Kingdome (EAST)
4 Chief78 - Tiger Stadium (EAST)

Have Played Enough Not to be a New Owner But Have Not Won a Championship in the 80's (Intermediates)
1 RohnB-St. Louis Browns-Busch Stadium (CENTRAL)
2 UglyJerry - Wrigley Field (WEST)

The Veterans (Experts)
1-Sykes - NJ
2- Yount Fan - WI
3-Rooksa1958 - TX
4-T.Richardson - OH
5-Seanreflex - NH
6-Icemen - PA

The Rules:
1 - This is a DH League.

2 - More than one team can have the same stadium. Since the new owners and the intermediates have already picked there stadiums, they can not change the stadium. The veterans may choose whatever stadium they want even if the same stadium is used by another owner in the same division, [b:56b4778f25]EXCEPT[/b:56b4778f25] if part of that owner's poison pill is that the veteran deciding the pill tells them which stadium they must play in. (See below regarding poison pills and options).

3 - Regular TSN Back to the 80's rules apply for the new owners and intermediates regarding team salary, FA, minimum requirements, maximum requirements, etc. Veteran owners will be subject to these same rules [b:56b4778f25]EXCEPT[/b:56b4778f25] if part of that owner's poison pill is that the veteran is limited in same way.

4 - Veterans are [b:56b4778f25]Required[/b:56b4778f25] to explain to the rest of the league why they made a certain move. This includes but may not be limited to, FA signings, releases, giving insight into how you made your draft selections. Owners other then the veterans are allowed to ask in a public forum posting any questions to a veteran or to all vets and those asked [b:56b4778f25]must[/b:56b4778f25] in a timely fashion provided an appropriate answer. Remember everyone one of the this leagues most important objectives is for us new owners to learn and gather experience from the veterans of the is wonderful game, so let's all veterans and non-veterans keep that in mind. And please remember, so everyone may learn, all learning information must be done in a public forum. - Veterans are not obligated to tell what year they know or believe their player card to be. At the end of the season, it would be nice if the veteran owner explained how they knew what year the card they had was, if applicable.

5 - State Lottery - since every veteran team responded with their Pick 3 state before the evening drawings in all respective states, we will use the evening drawing for Saturdayy, October 29, 2005. I am sure all veterans are familiar with this system so I will simply say the order that we will use is high number to low number.

6 - We will use the Pick 3 Lottery results to determine which team plays where as follows:
a) Highest Pick 3 Number - Team #1 in Central
b) 2nd Highest P3# - Team #1 in West
c) 3rd Highest P3# - Team #2 in Central
d) 4th Highest P3# - Team #2 in West
e) 5th Highest P3# - Team #3 in Central
f) Lowest Pick 3# - Team #3 in West

7- To determine who gives who the poison pill we will use the following format:
a) Team #1 in Central gives(receives) to(from) Team #3 in West
b) Team #2 in Central gives(receives) to(from) Team #2 in West
c) Team #3 in Central gives(receives) to(from) Team #1 in West

Obviously, I choose this pattern to ensure that no veteran owner will give or receive a poison pill from another owner in the same division.

8 - [b:56b4778f25]The POISON PILL [/b:56b4778f25]- just as TSN has devised the Mystery Card, I (if of course I am the first, and if not, well hell I guess I'm stealing someone else's idea) have devised the mystery team in the way of a Poison Pill. Simply, each veteran owner will give and receive a poison pill to another veteran owner, please see #7 above for determining who give and receives to and from who. At the end of this posting will be a list of poison pill ideas as submitted by you the veteran owners. Each veteran owner must choose one poison pill choice from the list and assign it to the veteran owner they correspond to in #7 above. Once a poison pill choice has been used, no other veteran owner may use the choice. After the poison pill has been given, the veteran owner will then decide on their draft list and what stadium they will be playing in. Please note some pills will have multiple parts and some pill individual parts may be the same or similar to another pill's individual parts. We will use the following order for who picks the poison pill when:
1 - Team #1 - Central
2 - Team #1 - West
3 - Team #2 - Central
4 - Team #2 - West
5 - Team #3 - Central
6 - Team #3 - West

Please be advised, if any owner delinates or is not in compliance with any of the pills stipulations, they immediately upon discovery of non-compliance must bring their team into compliance.

8 - As the commissioner of this league, I will have final say in any and all disputes or issues that may come up. Seeing that I am a new owner to this league, I reserve the right to confer with the veterans of this league for rule interpretations and just plain ruling questions.

9 - (Not really a Rule) It would be great if the league could start on Monday, November 7th, so please let's all try to have our teams in before Wednesday (11/2) night at 11:00pm. I will be sending all team owners the league name and password tonight (10/29), and remember for the teams in the Central and West you can not enter the league until the preceeding divisions have been filled.

10 - Poison Pill List (remember veterans choose only one poison pill (and all of its parts - you can not give only a couple of the parts of it is a multiple part pill) to give to another veteran and once that pill has been used it can no longer be used again) - See #7 & #8 for who you are giving the pill to and when you can give them the pill.

a. Pill receiver can only draft and have on their roster (including bench players) players who have a fielding rating of 3 or greater (catchers do not apply, however only catchers with wore than 0 arsm can be used). Pill giver chooses stadium team will play in. (Pitchers do not apply as well)

b. You may only have players on your roster at all times from a certain division (AL East, AL West, NL East, NL West - as in effect in the 1980's), unless non-specificed division player was traded for. - The veteran giving this pill may select whichever division. - [b:56b4778f25]PLEASE NOTE[/b:56b4778f25]- this pill may be used more than once provided the division used after the first time is different than the prceeding times.

c. Must use 5 man rotation with no starter being more than $4.50M. Pill giver can choose ballpark.

d. Must use 27 man roster at all times.

e. Owner giving pill chooses ballpark other owner must play in. Additionally owner giving pill chooses whether the pill receiver can have a team with hitters totaling less than $31M or pitchers totalling less than $20M. (This pill idea was taken from the Pitchers v. Hitters League Deux)

f. Cannot play players in their primary position. Primary position being the position that appears first on their card. (Therefore, you must have players who have multiple positions on their cards) - Catchers are exempt from this rule.

g. Owner giving pill will assign 4 players that reciever owner must attempt to draft and those players will remain on that team for the entire season.
Of the 4 players 2 must be hitters (1 must be used as a starting player), 1 must be a starting pitcher (pill receiver may use either 4 or 5 man rotation), and 1 must be a reliever. In the case that a player assigned was draft by another team, the pill giver can substitute another player of equal or lesser dollar amount during the preseason process and the pill receiver must make room on their roster for the substituted player.

h. The starting lineup and at least more than half of the entire pitching staff must consist of all non-caucasian players. Bench players may be of any color. (Commissioner Note - My apologizes for the lack of P.C. in this pill, if I have offended anyone reading this, please accept my apologizes and know that no ill will or defamation was intended)

i. All 75 cent starting pitchers. And pill giver can choose stadium team will play in.

j. At least $10M must be in bank at all times. If at any time the amount in bank is less than this reserve amount, then the owner must release a player to reach this reserve amount. You can not trade to get to this amount, but a trade may keep you at this amount or may temporarily put you below this amount and at which point you must release a player to get to this point.

k. At each salary price change, you must drop one of your top 3 priced hitter and pitcher, and you can not resign them (you can trade for them) at any time in the remainder of the year. A maximum of 6 players during the year can be forced off this team.

l. Pill receiver can either choose to have a team with no reliever costing more than $1M and must use a 5 man rotation with no starter greater than an endurance of 7 innings or more (and can not have any 7* pitchers - 6*'s are allowed). [b:56b4778f25]OR[/b:56b4778f25] Pill receiver can only have a bullpen with each reliever having a salary of more than $2.5M (must have at least 5 relievers) and a staff (either 4 or 5 man) who does not have any individual starters with a salary of $2M or more.

m. Pill receiver during the season can have his roster "raided" 1 time by each of the new owners (beginners). Each raid, the raiding owner can take only one player and once they have raided they can not raid again, nor can they trade or release the player they raided for. [b:56b4778f25]However[/b:56b4778f25] the pill receiver is allowed to choose the pill giver's ballpark after the pill giver knows what their respective pill is.

n. Pill giver will decide how many FA (i.e. non-trade) moves the pill giver can have during the season. (Commissioner Note: Since I am new to this game, I am leaving this up to the pill giver, but please be aware if the amount you choose is deemed to be grossly unfair by the other veterans in this league, that amount will be adjusted by the commissioner. So please if you pick this pill, choose a harsh but nonetheless fair amount.)

Except where noted, these pills were derived from suggestions by the veterans in the league, with a few commissioner modifications.

I will be adding another post with the list of divisions and pill order after this one. I will also be sending he password to everyone so the east can join ASAP and the rest can join as soon as possible after they have come up with their draft list.

Thanks and sorry this is one long post, but hey I had a lot to say.

YountFan,

because I love competing with you, and respect your managerial talents and your ability to get ANY player to overachieve during the course of the season, I select this poison pill for you:

Based on the way Adam has worded the poison pill, I don't know if I should announce the names of the players here on this thread, or tell you in private. For the full effect of the "pill" to be achieved, I think I should announce the four players here in this forum so that other managers don't mistakenly select these players ...

I can't wait to see how you pay me back for this ....

Honestly, they look very easy to swallow compared to the squad I was going to trot out on the field.

I suggest the 4 players be made public. I don't think anyone in their right mind will put them on their draft cards (think here of the scrubs I'm going to get). But I'll leave it to Adam. If the list is private then I think Adam should be included.

Hmmm. Sean has to....

Well, actually I was going to say Sean give me them in

Postby AdamPhoenix » Sun Oct 30, 2005 2:19 pm

private and I will forward it to YF. But guess that is to late. And personally, other than maybe Ellis Valentine and Mark Langston, I can't imagine anyone trying to draft those guys.

But look at it this way YF, you can bury those guys at the bottom of your draft list and then use the rest for guys you want.
