If I could ever make playoffs again I would be happy to play you if you pitch Pete 4 times I beat him regularly Rommel is my problem and Babe beats everybody I try to draft Pete and trade him to a team in my division    8)

Not a bad concept at all. Could do very well. But I wouldn't start counting playoff chickens just yet. I think I have won the majority of my championships against Pete teams, beating him twice in the finals several times. As an aside, I always tailor my pitching staffs for the playoffs as well as targeting likely opponents teams for the playoffs.

I prefer 6-7 man starting staffs when not going for a regular 4 man-rotation. I'd add Hunter -- he would do real well in your park. Him, Rommel, Babe and Pete give your four solid starters at home and you have Speer and Frock to spell Catfish and Rommel on the road. Rommel is too high risk in bomber parks, for my taste, to be used as you plan.

There is never a sure thing. But assuming the person putting a team together to make the finals knows what they are doing, you are an underdog against Pete everytime. You are an even bigger underdog in the SemiFinals. While there are definite weaknesses Pete causes, playoff losses are not one of them...............

Oh really? If I have Clemens on the mound against Pete in Griffith or Forbes against a right handed oriented lineup, I would say it would be a toss-up. Actually with the difference in holds I would prefer Clemens there. Not to mention the 2 Million I would have saved by not having Pete -- money that could be used to strengthen my offense and giving me a better team than what Clemens is facing. And Koufax can more than hold his own against Pete in a pitchers park, especially with the gba's and the no ballpark singles vs. lefties. In fact with 4 lefties in the lineup Koufax is just flat out better than Pete even without the K's and gba's.

There is no one player in Strat that whose presence automatically confers an advantage. There are always counterbalancing effects when there is a salary cap.

Every N right handed batter Roger Clemens faces in Griffith has a 2% chance of hitting a HR against Clemens. And lefties have a slugging average of .166 and and OBP of .155 vs Pete's .086 Slugging and .095 OBP - that is not what I call "a toss-up"

Sandy Koufax is a bit closer but against righties he has a 1.25% chance of giving up a HR to a right handed batter and his SLG is .130 and OBP of.095 vs Pete's .084 slugging and .093 OBP

And while Sandy Koufax has a Slugging of .089 and OBP of .057 vs lefties he has a 1.1% chance of giving up a HR as well. And an equal chance of giving up a triple. Pete you only get to first base at best so you must string hits together to score off his card. But the larger problem using Sandy Koufax or any lefty in a big game is there are many many hitters whose cards are very good against lefties who cost next to nothing and are available for pinch hitting.

And Pete is an "N" and capabable of getting one of the HR's off those guys and has a WP rating of 1 and a balk of 0 - Clemens also has 23 errors on his card.

Overall I am sure in the playoffs Pete's advantage is worth much more than 2 million dollars.

Diamond Dope in Forbes: Koufax vs. Alexander

And since you appear to delight in selectively quoting stats:
On the runs created stat Koufax vs. lefties gives up half as many as Alexander.
Lefties hit .028 vs Koufax and .091 vs Alexander.
Righties hit .073 vs. Koufax and .089 vs Alexander.
Just a few that you conveniently neglected to mention.

Who cares about pinch hitters? If one is in then Pete is out. Koufax is a better bunter, vastly less likely to give up a WP and makes 11 less errors than Pete over the course of an average season.

More top lefties fall apart against left-handed pitching than top righties do against right handed pitching. This is often far more relevant in a world series than pinch hitters.

Alexander gives up gb's that advance runners automatically. Koufax gives up double play balls.

Koufax is 1.5 M cheaper. He is an S9 Pete an S8.

Why Petrosian, what an ugly thing to say.....does this mean we can't be friends? If we couldn't be friends I just don't think I could bear it.

By the way the lower number in wild pitches is better.

Yeah, I reversed ownership on the wild pitches. My bad.

Incidentally, I got two more rings last night in game 7 finals.

In one series I beat Pete, the other, Babe Adams. The latter victory was against you of all people. How ironic. What exquisite timing given our discussion here. How lucky of me to beat Babe both games in this series.

I believe that also makes you 0-3 against me in finals. It's amazing how consistently lucky I am in these situations, given that you're the prohibitive favorite with your pitching. Lucky for me pitching is only 78/216 of the game in Strat. Well, better luck next time Mr. Schimpf.

Look darling, it's Johnny Ringo, the deadliest pistolier in the west.

And I was just happy to have my team make the playoffs at 81-81. I was very happy to be in the position to have Babe Adams starting in the 7th game and yes I did have the advantage. IF you read my post carefully you will see I suggested it was a much bigger advantage in the Semi-Final round. I do not feel a need to rethink the theory that Pete, Mordecai and Jack are the 3 pitchers to have. It is illogical to suggest that a team on 70 million could compete with your 80 million dollar team and take 3 of 5 but by adding Babe Adams or Pete Alexander to that same team you have forseen from the start of the year a way to assemble a team to beat Babe Adams or Pete Alexander in game 7 of the finals.

By the way until the Celebration league started last night I believe this is the only time we have been in the same division together:

Final East Division Standings
Team W L Pct GB
Cardinals 42[/color:b0f0b3ca9b] - 91 71 .562 -
Scum II[/color:b0f0b3ca9b] - 75 87 .463 16.0
Idiots 13 74 88 .457 17.0
Devils 72 90 .444 19.0

You're no daisy, you're no daisy at all, poor soul you were just too high strung. I'm afraid the strain was more than he could bear........................

Update and proof of pudding test:

The team managed to eke out 111 wins

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=70926

So much for problems making the playoffs.

However,

... they are facing a game five tonight in the Semis and sending Pete to the mound. Winning this game if it came to that was the concept. We'll see if it works out as "planned". :)
