Lineup depth charts! It's only for ATG so far (ok, I think we know who the preferred child is, now) but Bernie says it's coming to BTT80s. It's also only for substitutions when the lineup is set for a game, and not in-game substitutions.

I'd like to see the boxscore for that sub. I'm willing to bet money on how HAL makes his subs, and you should be EXTREMELY thankful in the 80's game for BAD subs. 8)

HAL scours your team for the best available hitter eligible for that position and moves him there for the injured player.

If that player was already in the field, he does it again.

Beuchele was on your bench with Schofield. Dick has a higher OBP than Steve which makes him first in line for playing time.

It's one thing to b!tch about the sub logic, but you can use the information to understand WHY the changes are made and go from there.

Understanding WHY, but not being able to do anything about it makes the situation doubly frustrating. Unless you only put "all glove no hit" guys on your bench, you'll never get a wise replacement out of HAL if a higher slugging bat is available who also happens to qualify at a particular position...

Jeff,

I think the point is realism. Even the most rookie manager in the majors would not make moves like HAL does on defense. We all live with the strange defensive substitutions, but at least Bernie recognizes this and is working on a change.
