No need for defense?

How important do you think defense is in this game? Less so than in ATG? With all the good pitching, gbas, and generally weaker hitting, does it make up for a lineup of "4"s? If you assemble enough good hitters and a decent staff tailored for your home park, no need to worry about Howard in LF, right?


I guess I'll find out with this bunch. Clemente and Kirkpatrick out of position, Stargell in right. Whaddaya think?

I agree your lineup should carry this team! You're still strong on defense @ 2B & SS. I think I would consider moving Clemente back to RF and getting an everyday CF to replace Kirkpatrick. My humble opinion, but I would hate to waste Roberto's "1" rating and you need a platoon mate for Kirkpatrick anyway.

My two cents--I think a lot of people underestimate how much a 4 in the OF hurts you. Not as many X chances as SS or 2B, but in the OF those X chances turn into doubles and triples not singles. Similarly, a 1 in RF (Clemente) saves a fair number of runs because he prevents doubles and triples.

That said, you have a power-packed lineup that may be able to muscle through. It will be interesting!

In the 2006 Tour Tourney, I fielded a team that went 3/3/4 in the OF and 3/3/2/4 aroung the IF and posted the best record and went into the last inning of game seven with a lead before losing in extra's. I had good pitching(I think I was #2 in ERA), low "e" ratings, slugging and was built to win in my park, so I would say it's definitely possible to win with a questionable defense.

I currently have a bad defensive team going in Forbes. My record is an amazing 24-6 at home. Averaging an error/game with an infield of Allen, Carew, Tovar & Belanger. Bonds, Reggie, Mays & Sanguillen also chipping in with some bad "D" in the outfield and behind the plate. Some decent range in the OF at least.
