Poll: Back to the '70s - default DH or no DH?

Postby bernieh » Tue Nov 14, 2006 11:43 pm

Well I was bound to hit this issue sooner or later. For the upcoming Back to the '70s game, should the default setting for leagues be [b:14c014ff33]DH[/b:14c014ff33] or [b:14c014ff33]no DH[/b:14c014ff33]? As you all know, the DH rule first came into play in 1973, so to me it's a toss-up. I'm going to have the exact outcome of this (5-day long) poll dictate the matter.

Keep in mind that however the vote goes, it will [b:14c014ff33]always be an option[/b:14c014ff33] to set up your league with or without the DH rule. This poll is to determine the default setting, which does have an effect on what managers trend towards.

Thanks,
Bernie

No kidding, Sykes. Here the votes are 85% for the DH. In a seperate poll in the ATG forum, the voting is 55-45% against the DH. Both have about the same number of votes.

Also, PBTR requested a poll for/against the mystery card (tongue-in-cheek).

I fear civil war between these two factions.

It is not surprising at all to me. The ATG people usually play in leagues with no DH and hate the mystery card concept. The BTT80s people usually play in DH leagues and love, love, love the mystery card. Therefore the difference in the polls are not surprising at all.

I think it will be extremely difficult to create a mystery card game that appeals to the fanaticals of both games. I do play mystery card and non-mystery cards games so I like both games. The extremists will never be swayed. I think TSN is waisting time trying to please them. Just come out with a mystery card game this time and a single year card game next time (2007) and everyone will be happy. 8)

I'm a Back-to-the-'80s guy all the way, but I've got to side with the ATGers on this one. Since the AL did not use the DH in '70, '71, and '72, the majority of baseball games in the decade were DH-free.

HAL does less dumb stuff pitching wise with the DH. So go for DH

Just a note...

I was able to vote in both polls. The ATG post should direct you here and not be a seperate poll. Your "results" will thus be skewed.

Why is this poll even on the ATG board????

I am beginning to have a very bad feeling that this update that we have waited so long for is going to sell us out in order to attract non-mystery card people. :x

Hak, Bernie has promised us that the default BTT70s game will be a mystery card game just like BTT80s. Any stuff directed to the ATG crowd are only going to be options that can be selected.

I know that's been said LM, but until I hear that there would be completely different pricing mechanisms, i.e. the mystery card pricing would be indpependantly set for the mystery card game and based on a similar formula to that of BTT80's, and the pricing for any other form of the game would be absolutely independant, I am going to be sceptical. I play BTT80's and ATG and they are very different games with supporters who want different things, I am very nervous about BTT70's being catered to ATG people.
