'The Naturals' Keeper League Season VII - Congrats tkl33!

Postby ArrylT » Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:09 pm

Well with 15 games to go, the Central is no longer as dominant as it once was. The 2nd best team is now in the West, and the WC could likely come from the West as it could from the Central. And possibly the East, since there is a team only 3 games out.

However the Central still has 4 teams above .500, and while tkl33 has likely secured the division, the remaining 3 teams are all in contention for the Wild Card.

Meanwhile the Folsom Prison Blues & Hollywood Monacos battle it out for the Eastern title, while the Savoy Specials look to fend off the Diamond Kings in the West.

And I continue to suck....

On a lighter note:

A lawyer went duck hunting in rural North Dakota. He shot and
dropped a bird, but it fell into a rancher's field on the
other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly
rancher drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The
lawyer responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now
I'm going to retrieve it."

The old rancher replied, "This is my property, and you are not
coming over here."

The indignant lawyer said, "I'm one of the best trial attorneys in
California and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and
take everything you own."

The old rancher smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we
settle disputes in North Dakota. We settle small disagreements like
this with the North Dakota Three Kick Rule."

The lawyer asked, "What's that?"

The rancher replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land,
first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times
and so on back and forth until someone gives up."

The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old rancher slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked
up to the attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy
steel-toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his
knees. His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal
gushing from his mouth. The barrister was on all fours when the rancher's
third kick to his rear end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.

The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet.
Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old coot.
Now it's my turn"

[I love this part.....]

The old rancher smiled and said, "Naw, I give up. You can have the duck."

:)

If both tycobb & Old Geezer win their series tonight - the East Division Champion will have a sub .500 record!

Meanwhile gamiam, goffchile & Munich Man will battle it out to see who clinches the WC.

[b:e42604b0d1]Team Awards:[/b:e42604b0d1]

MVP - Roger Hornsby

Got pretty much everything I'd hoped for out of Hornsby, although some more Doubles would be nice. ;)

CY Young - George Mullin / Chris Short

Tied since their Wins & ERA/WHIP were so similar.

Rolaids Relief - Firpo Marberry

8 Losses aside, was a key component of my bullpen

Pleasant Surprise - Andre Dawson

Been a while since I've used Dawson, and while more OBP would have been nice, did very well otherwise

Disappointing Performance - Carl Yastremski

Probably the last straw with Yaz. Have yet to have anything above mediocre and this season was pathetic.

[b:22fbcc6b3f]AT Press: [i:22fbcc6b3f]Semi Finals - Hillsboro Hummers vs. Maiden Germany[/i:22fbcc6b3f][/b:22fbcc6b3f]

In a battle between classic pitching titans, neither ace really overwhelmed but Adie Joss was able to go the distance while errors by Maiden Germany helped chase Three Finger Brown in the 8th.

Robin Yount provided a key offensive burst by the Hummers in the 1st inning with a 3 run Home Run. Another Home run by Z. Wheat would extend the lead to 4-0. However Maiden Germany was able to rally for 4 runs in the 7th inning, thanks mainly to a key triple by J. Sundberg.

Unfortunately for Maiden Germany, Joss was able to shake off that inning and pitched perfect 8th & 9th innings, and a run off an RBI double by Dave Parker allowed the Hummers to escape with a win in Game I.

Game II was another exciting 1 run affair. Both Maiden Germany & Hillsboro scored in the first inning, with the Hummers driving in 3 in the opening inning for the second consecutive game. But for the second consecutive game they would be unable to hold that early lead in the later going.

Late in the game Maiden Germany was able to tie the score at 4-4 off of a Shoeless Joe triple and a single by Hack Wilson. Once again the Hummers rallied with a single run. But in the 9th the visiting Germany squad refused to go quitely. Wodd was able to sacrifice a run in and Cuyler followed up with a single to drive in the go-ahead run.

Down by one in the 9th, the Hummers did not panic. Terry led off the inning with a single, and although Younts blast fell just short of the wall, Duke Sniders did not, and the Hummers were able to win Game II with a end of game HR!

Three games in a row! The Hummers were able to score runs in the first inning for the third consecutive attempt, opening the critical game 3 on the road with a pair of runs.

Maiden Germany would rally for a run, but this time the Hummers were able to protect their lead through the whole game, behind another complete game effort from their starting staff. Hillsboro would add 2 more 2 run innnings to increase the lead to 6-1 and the Maiden Germany squad, knowing they were beat, and eager to partake in the post-season drinking binge that awaited them, only added one more run before the game concluded. Hummers advance to the Finals!!
