Poll: Back to the '70s - default DH or no DH?

Very true. On the other hand the majority of the years in the 70's had the DH rule. Maybe that is why Bernie is polling us for an answer.

I see what you're saying, LMB, but then again the NL didn't have the DH rule in any of those years, so in a way the count is 13 seasons (AL and NL) with no DH to 7 seasons (AL) with the DH.

But hey, I really enjoy the '80s game, and the default has a DH there, so I'll gladly go with the flow on this one. Yountfan also makes a good point about the relief pitcher usage by Hal being less problematic with the DH.

I think having the DH as default would be a good thing. It will enable the Luzinskis and dick allens of the world get some playing time.

I voted for DH because I figured most of the people who play this game are BTT80's devotees, and that the game parameters should mirror the other. We're used to it already, and can switch it over anytime. I also think most managers prefer the DH. I don't think HAL is any smarter using the bullpen with a DH, though. I mean, 175 innings and a 20-3 record out of Al Holland one year for me was a tad ridiculous. I see a LOT of overusage among relief pitchers. I wish usage actually played a factor (think: "Force daily injuries"). This would make depth a bigger consideration. Pitchers get injured a lot more often in real life than they do in this game, so durability doesn't play a factor NEAR as much as it should. I mean, if you had to draft pitchers taking into account a certain number of innings, you'd draft a LOT differently. That said, I still like this version of online strat better than any other version I've played.

DH is a no-brainer. The 70s is where it all started.
And the AL/NL argument doesn't hold water.
Here in 2006, the NL still does not use the DH so there are as many games played with as without the DH.
Do we drop the DH from the current games and Back to the '80s because only half the teams used a DH?
Let's think this through logically. Leave as an option. Them that wants a non-DH league can play to their heart's content. They just need to pick that option.

I'm for the DH too, however perhaps non-DH leagues will hold more attraction for me once the new upgrades are implemented...the main reason I am not in favor of non-DH leagues is the inability to better control HAL's substitution patterns. If Bernie's efforts create a more controllable game, my National League sympathies will lead me to favor non-DH leagues..."real baseball"...plus more $$ can be allocated to the starting nine. And it'd be interesting to set up the bench, with a mix of defensive guys and boppers off the bench, and a more flexible pen would be required. But as it presently stands HAL's bubbleheaded approaches lead most of us to reduce his opportunities to manage. So it isn't so much a comment on the percentage of games really played with the DH in the 70s.
