Favorite 2005 Players

Wouldn't drop Dunn for Morneau for a few reasons:

1. The injury factor
2. Dunn can hit lefties well, Morneau cant.
3. Dunn has more flexibility with the ability to play left field
4. Dunn has better range.

In my opinion, no contest, even with the extra savings.

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Thu Nov 03, 2005 12:33 pm

I had to laugh when JD Early said take Schmidt and Santana I agree and been trying to get them. :? I have them in Miller with Clemens (who in the 7 leagues I have seen does pretty well) and Radke (sometimes good) with Wags as RP and Clemens, Santana and schmidt each have a 8.00+ ERA. Well it's only nine games in but I wondered if anyone had seen such a thing. I struggled to get these three guys. Santana gave up 15 hits and 10 runs in 7 IPs in his last game. So, sometimes the batter's will get the rolls I guess. You just have to laugh. I thought I was home free!

SP - Unit (who else??)

RP - Wagner, Lidge, Schmoltz (as a pure closer, hard to beat the value here) Isringhausen, Gagne, Ryan (in shea)

C - Mauer (when I can get him) Lopez

1B - Casey (can hit in any park) Gload (in shea)

2B - Loretta (if you can stand the D) but i think 2b is very shallow in 2005, i usually go cheaper here with decent or great D (Hudson, Kennedy)

SS - Furcal - to me, no better value at this very shallow position

3B - Beltre (WOW!) A. Ramirez (in a hitters park, if you can stand the D)

RF - Vlad, Drew, Abreu, Ichiro (lots of good ones here)

CF - Edmonds (duh), Kotsay (great value!), Beltran (in a hitters park) A.Jones (in a pitchers park)

LF - ManRam (4 fielder, but what a card!), Matsui, Cabrera

DH - Hafner

Guys I have not had, but would like to have....Bonds, Pujols, Helton, Berkman, Mora, Tejada, Guillen (ss)

Anyone had success with Segui? I had him once and he hit .330 in 360 abs. High injury but definitely worth it for 1.60 I thought.

I mostly play in Petco

SP Freddy Garcia (has led two leagues of the three I have been in in ERA and a 20 game winner every time)

Cheap SP Kris Benson puts up decent numbers in a pitchers park

RP K Rod mostly. A little pricey but as a Reliever 2 you can use him as a Super Reliever

Cheap RP Rafael Betancourt and Lance Carter. Have done very well for me in the right ballpark

1B Lou Merloni as part of a platoon with anyone else available

2B Brian Roberts or Willie Harris platooning with Geoff Blum

SS Rey Sanchez

3B Anyone

RF Drew

CF Kotsay

LF Kerry Robinson/Eli Marrero platoon

C A Castillo (.400 OB to both sides, very few DP's, -1 arm, 2e1)

DH Manny or Bonds

Played 3 seasons so far and won 1 championship, had the best record in the league twice, and played above .530 ball each time with this type of package.

Here are some sleepers!

RF- Willie Mo Pena - awesome against lefties, but I blew off the platoon in Wrigley and he banged out 40 HR.

LF- Eli Marrero - another guy who murders lefties. He'll lead the league in hitting against LHP.

LF- Kerry Robinson - one of the best cheapies round. When platooned with Marrero you've got the best $4.6 million player in the league! Robinson swiped 58 bases for me in one league and was platooning with Marrero.

C- Yorvit Torrealba - decent defense, he's cheap, and he murders LHP.

1B - J.T. Snow has an amazing card.

3B - Beltre!!!! But Aramis Ramirez is a great bargain at half the price of Beltre.

P - Oliver Perez is a damn good $5.48 million guy.
Andy Pettite is consistent as is Brad Penny for $3.15 million.

RP - Brian Meadows and Travis Harper are nice under $3 million cheapies.

Closer - Wagner's the best. Even when he's tired he's better than 80 percent of the other relievers! Let HAL wear him out!

Specialty - Joey Gathright is a great SB threat. He's got the second-best jump capability behind Pierre! Set him to avoid lefties and righties and designate him as a pinch runner and watch him put up stolen bases. He's good for about 20 in a pinch running capacity.

a few of my strategies for 2005

pitching and defense with a petco type park while prefering hitters that are 0+ clutch, when available

I think 4* starters in 2005 will always be better than the 5 man rotation, you just have to get the right guys.

P - pedro, ted lilly, nate robertson, kelvim escobar, jeff weaver, glavine, these are guys who may give up more base runners (singles or BB) but their extra base hit chances are low, one of the only higher priced guys I like to get is zambrano

RP - I try to pick two stud middle relief in the $3-4 range (ryan madson is my first choice) and 2-3 $1-2 guys with reverse righty or lefty status, Duchscherer, donnelly, plus one extreme reverse righty/lefty guy (9L, 9R) according to the right/left/switch makeup of my division, jaime walker, jay witasik

Closer - the cheaper the better, see smoltz or percival, I always try to find someone who is balanced, either 1R (preferably) or 1L, any more extreme than that I don't like

C - I always go cheap platoon at C, for example, mike redman vs righties, mike methaney versus lefties

3B - this is a tough position in 2005, current favorite is edgardo alfonso

2B, SS, CF - try to get 1s or 2s, izturis, damon, roberts would be my ideal, range is king at these positions

1B, 3B, LF, RF - defense is a priority, low range and e rating when possible, ccrawford, wilkerson

DH - best available hitter for the money usually good hitter with bad D, ortiz, carlos guillen, overbay

bench - gathright or podsednek for SB off the bench

How about favorite players under 1mil.

SP-MILTON
RP-PHELPS
INF-GOMEZ
INF-HILL
OF-ROBINSON
CA-PHILLIPS (as the cheap part of a L/R platoon)
