Do inury games count after you release a player?

Quick question...

If I have a player injured for 15 games, can I cut him then pick him up 15 games later and have him eligible to play, or do I need to hold him the whole time?

I'm pretty sure he has to be carried on a roster in order for the injured games to be "ticked off." If you drop him and pick him up later, he'll still have those games to sit out.

No, his games tick off even when he is not on your roster. However, he is fair game for everyone if you are cutting a good player. :)

John is right. From my experience, the injury games tick off 3 per night whether a player is on a roster or a free agent.

Hmmm...I'll have to pay attention and see. I figured the big red "I" just stayed. Okay, guess I was wrong.

That's actually a bug that prevents that red "I" from going away after an injured player serves out his injury time on the waiver wire. It kind of adds to the misconception that injury time is frozen while waived.....not true. If a player has served out the required number of games it's OK to pick him up and put him in your starting lineup. In some cases the red "I" stays even after you have picked him up and he's really no longer injured. It goes away once the games have run.

If a player is dropped while he is injured the red I remains by his name until/unless another team eventually picks him back up. To tell if a player is still injured or not just look at his card. If it still reads "player is injured for X games" then he is still injured. If you don't see that message in the upper L/H side of his card then he has served his injury time and can be put in your lineup. The red I will remain even after you pick him up until that night's games have run. Once they do the red I will dissapear.

This is a glitch in all TSN SOM games.

Now I don't feel quite so stupid. I was sure I saw that red "I." Guess the good thing is you can check the injury reveal.

One thing about that lingering red "I" bug is that when you're looking for replacement players, that red "I" can alert you to any FA's who were dropped due to injury, even if they're no longer injured. Often such players are dropped because a bad year was revealed, but surprisingly often, there's no proof of a bad year, so the injury can really be worth checking out. Since you know the team he played for and the number of games he played, it's usually not hard to go through the box scores and find the specific injury. This can lead to some real discoveries.

For example, in a recent league Kent Hrbek was dropped after a long injury. His injury (lo max vs RHP) plus its length showed that he was in a good year, either 82, 87 or 88. I picked Hrbek up based on this info, and since then he's had 100 AB and hit 14 HR, posting a 1.046 OPS. My team, which was off to a dismal 24-39, has with Hrbek's help since gone 23-7. We're now over .500 and in the thick of the wildcard race.

So using the red I bug to one's own advantage can really pay off.
