I could do Kling for Meyers at C and Frisch for Doyle at 2B. That would free up about $2.5 million to upgrade Crawford in CF.

Kling is not really an upgrade over Meyers. The "1" at C isn't that important, the arm, error, PB and throwing rating are what matters and Kling and Meyers are probably about the same as far as that goes.

Yes, a team link would help.

Play Meusel in Right

pick up Agee or Geronimo for center

pick up Cleon for left

Buck and Peck are fine at 3b and ss

Pick up Evers and Lunderus for 2B and 1B

catcher - Gibson/battey/dickey/dempsey depending on dollars

improve your pitching

Anyone better defensively and I would either sacrifice hitting wise or they are too expensive.

You seem to want me to upgrade defensively at almost every position but these suggestions would strip me of all my hitting. I had Geronimo in Forbes and he barely hit .200.

I will look over things this weekend.

Rick Dempsey and George Gibson are both available and I would definitely recommend them over the Chief on a smallball type team.

No doubt, the Chief brings more offense, but his errors will kill you, trust me, I know from experiecne, I tried him on a smallball team and he made 20+ errors and teams ran wild on him.

Gibson will give you .270 average or so and decent defense and the same speed Chief brings.

Re: Dempsey, I love his defense on this type of team. He really slows down opponents and doesn't give away those PB or throwing errors either. Plus his OBP vs. RHP's isn't that bad.

If hitting is what worries you, then you don't have enough of it to win and can't get it spending that much on your starting pitching. Drop two or three of the big boys to people in the Gibson-Carlton range or less and put the savings into offense.

If you want to go with the stud starters, then listen to OT. Geronimo has played for a healthy number of smallball champions. Defense is much more important than offense with that kind of team.

Most importantly, go with the style that seems like the most enjoyable one to you.
