Clemens, Schmidt and Santana

Clemens, Schmidt and Santana

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Thu Nov 03, 2005 1:05 pm

I waited quite a few teams to get this pitching in a relative pitcher's park Miller- and so I get them and Radke. So far in 9 games Clemens, Schmidt and Santana each have ERA's in the high 8's!!! Yikes. Santana gave up 15 hits 10ERs in 7 innings. Anyone ever seen this? I plan to keep them all and wait for better luck. But man talk about losing faith in the SOM cards. The batter's must be getting 80% of the dice rolls here.

In the seveen leagues I have other teams I checked Clemens, Schmidt and Santana had only two cases where they had bad ERAs, one I have Clemens (and Zambrano) doing 4.41 in Fenway and Schmidt in BankOne. In the other nineteen cases they were all stellar.

I remember seeing some really good player say "It's all in the dice rolls." I didn't believe it----until maybe now.

Hang in there...those three are particularly well suited for Miller...Question would be do you have enough offense to carry the day?? :)

Good luck!

Huh, this looks familiar.
I had Johnson, Schmidt, Clemens, and Martinez in Miller Park, and did NOT make the playoffs. although Johnson and Schmidt were amazing, Clemens and Pedro did not hold up there end of the bargain. still won 85 games, but did not have the season I was hoping for after getting the pitching I THOUHGT I had.

I'm in the same league with you. mtarbell is right, hang on, their numbers will improve.

I will say this though:

1) I suggest you stop the offensive shuffle, don't take any more of those 20% salary cuts. Way too early in the season to lose $$$

2) Your defense is horrendous. your best defensive player is on 2B but he is a 3 with a mid-high e rating. [u:9b761bc9f5]Everyone[/u:9b761bc9f5] else you are playing is a 4 with the exception of the catcher you are playing behind the plate and he is a 5 +3 e13 t20 pb20

For what its worth, I know what I'd do to fix that team around, but we're in the same league and I don't know if you feel comfortable taking some pointers from me...or if you'd even want anyone to offer their two cents.

But just give them a little time and remember the first thing I suggested above: Don't drop any more cash, not yet...otherwise you'll decimate your offense way too much and your pitching is waaay too expensive as it is (47 mil) that you'll find it hard to balance the team.

I've got a team with Santana, Clemens, Zambrano and Lilly so I know how tough it is to land an offense after the stud pitching paychecks But hang in there, only 9 games into season

Just my opinion but if i'm going to invest that much in my rotation i'd prefer a safer bet of a stronger pitcher park than Miller. Your still not negating your opponents ballpark homers to the extreme you could.

Granted you can build a much better hitting team yourself at a affordable price and get some ballpark HRs out of Miller. Just my 2 cents i've had a very strong set of 3 on a few teams. Some have floundered around 500 and others are 20+ games over 500.

You've got so much luck with the rolls, being able to provide enough offense for your pitching studs and what your facing that plays a huge part in any teams success or failure.

Either way i'd hold on to them their not your problem i'm guessing someone else is very much not holding up their end of the bargain.

Its not all the luck of the dice. Over the course of the season, things will equal out. If you have the defense mentioned by another poster, believing its the luck of the dice is surely met with the destiny of a last place team with horrendous pitching. Even Randy Johnson is going to have a 4 plus, maybe even 5 plus ERA if you have nothing but 3's and 4's in the middle of your infield and CF. It's not the dice.

I have to agree with my cohorts here. You can have the best pitching on the planet BUT if you don't have the defense up the middle, you're doomed to a miserable season based upon the runs that your poor D will give up due to poor range and high errors.

defense

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Fri Nov 04, 2005 4:40 pm

Yeah the defense is sucky. I got caught in the draft missed all my middle infield choices in fact I only got four of the top fifteen choices and so I did sacrifice d for offense. I should point out though that there are a boatload of walks here which is not caused by bad defense. HRs a little high aswell. But point is well taken, bad d in the middle will hurt you. We'll see. It can't get worse.

update

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Fri Nov 11, 2005 11:10 am

Well I heeded everyone's advice and it has helped a little. I have Reese 1 at 2nd, Crosby at ss with a 2 and Crawford up the middle with Torrealba and Molina cathcing. Clemens is 0-7 with a 6.50+ EA with 34 walks in 54 innings and Santana just got beat 22-5 at Petco. He has 11 HR's in 57 innings and is 2-6 with a 6.40 ERA. Schmidt is now 3-3 and pitching well. But still the team leads the league in HRs or close to the top and we are getting clubbed. I just kep waiting.
