some interesting performances

I just wanted to shoot the breeze a little bit about one of my recent teams that I found interesting. The team was a disappointment -- 77-85, despite 60 more runs scored than allowed -- but it had some intriguing individual performances. Hopefully this isn't one of those things where your team is fascinating to you and not to anyone else :)[list:7cb4fc3fca][*:7cb4fc3fca]Jhonny Peralta went 344/404/610 with numbers all over the place: 47 doubles, six triples, 34 homers, 133 RBI, 111 runs scored. That's certainly the best season I've ever had in a pitcher's park for a price as low as 4.59M![*:7cb4fc3fca]Podsednik actually replicated his season stats for once: 304/365/353, with 52 SB against only 10 CS. I had never seen him do well. Maybe it helped that I hit him in the bottom third of the order against righties?[*:7cb4fc3fca]I was impressed with Todd Walker, whom I picked up about a quarter of the way through the season. He went 300/353/506 with 22 doubles, 18 HR and 62 RBI in 397 AB. And only 11 errors, not all that bad. He got hurt a few times, but he certainly earned his 2.67M when he was in there. I think if I had started the season with him rather than Ibanez as I did, the team might have managed to make the playoffs.[*:7cb4fc3fca]I got excellent relief seasons from Carrasco (13-8, 2.47 in 218.1 IP) and Heilman (13-6, 2.69 in 224 IP). I was concerned about overworking the pen, but in retrospect, I think I could have worked it even more, considering that Helling "only" threw 145.2 IP (with a 2.66 ERA), and K-Rod only threw 65.2 IP (with a 3.29 ERA, although he blew a lot of saves.) HAL seemed a little reluctant to use Helling. Not sure why.[/list:u:7cb4fc3fca]Forgot the link; D'OH!

Those numbers sound interesting. Can you post a link to that team?

Interesting stuff, Dean. Wow, could you have hooked those starters fast enough? None of those clowns has simmed out for me -- even when the park settings were optimal. And here I thought Garcia was my own personal bad luck talisman.

How great would it have been if Peralta had played a handful of innings at 3rd, 1st or LF during the regular season? Or if headquarters in LI had seen fit to grant him a "3."

I had the starters on slow hook, but I set the relief tendency to aggressive. My goal was to get the starters out quickly, but to avoid the .2 IP starts that could kill my entire bullpen, especially if they were to happen back-to-back. The settings did actually pretty much work; I didn't get many super-short starts, but the starters' IP per start was pretty low anyway.[code:1:a7dd4b9beb]Name IP GS IP/GS
Garcia, F 225.3 40 5.6
Lee, C 160.7 36 4.5
Marquis 97.3 19 5.1
Lawrence 78.3 18 4.3
Hernandez, L 128 25 5.1

I wonder, though, if I even needed the slow hook. I may have pushed the limits of what Carrasco and Heilman could do, but then again, maybe not... plus maybe HAL could have been smart enough to use Helling and K-Rod more.
