Yankee '56 Team - How does it look?

I got my team together and I like it from an offensive standpoint. check it out

a few things that I'm considering: I'm playing Jackie Robinson @2b though he's a three at that position. my reasoning is that the offense will offset whatever defensive shortcomings this team has. I have to have offense because my division includes Huntington & Dunn (the other is Olympic) I know that my pitching is a bit light and thinking of dropping Battey for a cheaper option to get money for another starter or drop Hiller for a *lhp. any ideas, thoughts?

I do not believe that Jackie's O will offset his 3 at 2B, look for a better glove. I might move him to 3B, drop Bando and get Gilliam to lead-off, Jackie can hit 2nd.

I would move out Boog for Norm Cash and upgrade Hiller( 4 day SP anyway) to Hughson or Pollet. You have plenty of LHs in McGregor and Key. Now is the time to look at your division rivals and determine what kind of SP will work effectively, hard LH, hard RH or reverse RH (like Palmer or Steib)

See if you can get Burns to platoon at 1B when you play on the road in a pictehrs park.

Not a lot on the wire, you might be as good as you can get.

Best of luck, sschu

I had similar team with Dawson as main RH bat and if your league has a lot of LH P you may crater I only won 77

I think you'll regret playing Jackie at 2B. You definitely need the obp, but selling out your defense is not the way to get it. Look for obp/speed/average from your righthanded hitters; Bando doesn't fit the mold. Dawson does, especially if all of the best CFs are gone.

You currently have 5 hitters who are not geared toward your park (Fernadez/Battey/Bando/Dawson/Robinson), at least as far as power goes. IMHO, those 5 guys do not provide enough obp/average to overcome that.

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna keep Powell at 1st, drop Bando and get Gilliam for 2nd, moving Robinson to 3rd. There are lots of opinions out there-some conflicting. Powell (L/R OPS) 1287/1437, Yaz 1285/1588 & R. Jackson 1184/1586 are my top LH bats & Dawson is my top RH bat (1372 vs LHP). I'm light on rH power but have good OBP from that side with Robinson Gilliam & Battey (all over .400). There's only one way to see if it works and that is to go with it! I'll find out soon enough

Gilliam has not performed for me. Not that I've used him in the last 120 teams but he was very disappointing early on. Good move with Robinson. Only 3's I ever remotely consider at 2b are Doyle and Alvis, but prefer to even avoid 2's at 2nd. Actually I did have a good season once from Hiller.

Here's a 1956 Yankee team that won it all, including a sweep of the finals.

Note the team era and the runs scored vs runs given up differential. I think I maximized the park effects. The left field (Oglivie and Alou) and first base (59hrs) platoons were especially gratifying and probably the critical element in the team's success.
