Pete Rose

I'm a relative noob with only three seasons experience. But I don't think I've ever seen Pete Rose in any of my leagues. I realize he was in the twilight of his career, but at $2.49 million he doesn't seem to be a bad deal.

Is my observation a fluke? Or do you find that manages don't seem to much require his services in your leagues? If you do avoid Pete Rose is it because he doesn't fit with your plans or are you influenced by his gambling or other factors.

The only positions he is acceptable at are 1B and 3B. Usually owners prefer more power from those two positions. If it works out that owners are looking for a position to cut costs they would probably go for someone that has a lower salary than Rose and take a chance on him.

If TSN ever creates a Back to the 70s game Rose would be a much more desired player.

The gambling has no part of his not being on teams. People don't have a problem taking Gooden or Strawberry, both of whom have had repeated drug arrests as well as other criminal problems. We SOM owners have no morals. If Charles Manson had a good SOM card everyone would want him on their team.

Manson

Personally, I do want Manson on my team. He's a charasmatic leader who'll have no problem keeping the others in line, especially when things get very helter skelter late in the season.

Louie,

I use Rose alot; I especially like Rose when I have Royals Stadium teams, as his high OBP usually helps in a stadium like that.

Here's a season he had for me when I grabbed him midway through to replace a lousy Wade Boggs card. He's very serviceable, and he's a good pitchers park kind of player.

good luck,

The trick is to draft Pete and his son Pete Jr.......who can provide Dad with the steroids he needs to become a HR masher to go with all those singles.
