Yeah, I just didn’t see any last-minute moves that would really have made a big difference in my season. I did a lot of within-division sims, and the Giles move was the one with the most upside. My win spread was 83 – 96 with Boone (after about 20 sims of 162 gms vs division opponents) and then went to 83-106 (!) with Giles, so I figured it was worth it to make the switch.
My take on this is that TSN did a much better job this year valuing defense, so the slight difference in Giles’ value over Boone reflects a really killer card vs LHP and the increased injury factor, but the difference from a 1e16 to a 2e22 is not so critical. I turn a few less DPs, but since I had already decided to go with the Jimenez platoon at 2b, I’m only going from a 1 to a 2 in 40-50 gms.
The trade of Torres & Zambrano for Linebrink & Harden helps me marginally, but really that was to compete better with WM/JTJ in their park, as it gives me 2 solid RH SPs in my rotation.
It seems most teams are carrying 2-3 injury guys in this $100M format since you can have great backups. My favorite is at C, where both guys are big injury risks but since only 1 can be injured at a time, I end up getting huge numbers (50+ HRs & 170 + RBI) from the Mauer/Greene tandem...
