Trade issue (I UPDATED THE RULES)

Postby honestiago1 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 10:53 am

Trying to trade players to "actual teams" is VERY, VERY hard (EX: If I have Tettleton as a DET player, I can only trade him to BAL, severely limiting my options).

I went ahead and allowed each franchise a SINGLE TRADE allowing movement of players irrespective of their actual teams. This will allow a small amount of flexibility, while maintaining the overall idea of the league. Hopefully this, combined with the idea that non-draft team players are ALWAYS available, will give GMs a bit more ammunition to dig out of bad drafts, bad cards, etc.

NDT FA's

Postby honestiago1 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:18 pm

A flaw in my logic was pointed out to me about NDT free agents. Accordingly, I have dropped the non-draft team free agent phase of the league. This simply means that, when waiver period is over, all bets are off. NDT players belong to everyone, so whoever gets that 5y player from the non-drafted team, more power to 'em.

For those of you who may not know, NDT means Non Drafted Team. All players that have cards for two or more teams will be property of someone (unless that player has cards for the two undrafted teams only). What Honestiago is saying is that any player that only has cards for one or both of the 2 undrafted teams (no cards for a drafted team) is free game for any of us to pick up after waivers.

If a player has 4 cards for an undrafted team and 1 possible card for a drafted team then only that drafted team owner may pick him up. If a player has all 5 cards for an undrafted team, anyone may pick him up anytime after waivers.

Welllll, what I had MEANT was actually:

Postby honestiago1 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:47 pm

A player with even a single entry for an NDT is available to every manager. You treat the NDT as if it were a team of your own.

EXAMPLE: ATL is a non drafted team. Bruce Sutter's card is CHC-2y, STL-2y and ATL-1y. For autodraft purposes, he belongs to CHC.

HOWEVER, once FA phase begins, ANYONE can access the ATL screen and take ANY of the players listed there. This means that, even though I drafted a CHW-PHI combo, I can still take Sutter, because of his 1y-ATL ref, and the fact that ATL is an NDT.

I thought this would make things easier, but you know what, this is too damned confusing. I'm going to FINALIZE the rules to read you can ONLY get players from your team screens. That's IT.

Simpler, cleaner, right? I'll keep the "one trade" rule, just for grins.

I like that best, honestiago. The only players who would therefore be totally excluded are franchise players for NDTs or those who only played for those two teams. When you consider that each club has, as far as I can tell, about 50 players who passed through their locker rooms, the talent pool for each is sufficiently deep -- if not equal, depending on the clubs one selects. The novelty of the theme is the very limitation of player movement which we have been discussing. It's a test for a smart (and/or lucky) cyber GM to do a better job of organizing talent than the IRL GMs of those clubs.

As the rules now stand, I gather, that a maximum of one player may appear on any team's roster that did not play for either of the two franchises -- and that player must have been acquired via trade. I can live with Bruce Bochte not being available (assuming no one chooses Seattle  ).

I think the "final" rules are great. I am ready for this league to fill up so we can get it on! This really seems like a fun concept so I am not sure why the league hasn't filled up already. Come on people. Join up for this fun league 8)
