How to get Rollins to run more?

This sounds simple, but why doesn't Rollins run more and Ichiro run less?

My lineup is:

Rollins
Edmonds
Dunn
Sheffield
Chavez
Suzuki
Kielty
Kennedy
Ausmus

Rollins is set to steal more, stealing is set to normal, Ichiro is not set to steal more (no checks). Unfortunately the opposite seems to happen, Ichiro is going all the time even for 3rd where he gets nailed most of the time. :( And, Rollins stays put. :?:

but I think if you set basestealing to conservative it prevents the 3B attempts. I am not sure what that will do for Rollins. Sometimes, I think the hold rating of the pitcher will keep base stealers closer to the bag.

Hopefully, some of the pros will chime in.

Bear - I think this is happening due to where they are in the lineup. Rollins has 3 huge HR bats behind him, and HAL is looking at that and being more conservative. Ichiro has all your singles hitters behind him, and HAL is correctly playing more small ball there. If you flip-flop them in the order I bet you get Rollins stealing & Ichiro staying put. They both have the same steal chance & run rating but Rollins has a pickoff number & Ichiro doesn't.

I had no idea that HAL would even know the difference. The two of them struggled when they were both at the top of the lineup, but they both have been clutch since splitting them up. I'll live with Ichiro getting gunned down once in awhile because the bottom of my order has been consistently producing runs...I'm not going to mess with success.

Yeah, I think the logarithims for that kind of decision are actually very advanced in the computer & calculate the move based on best chance to score a run, very sabermetric. I know for sure HAL looks at the batters behind the next batter up, especially with less than 2 out.

My .02:

I believe you are limiting the Hit and Run a bit. you only have 4 attempts through 75 games.

After Ichiro goes Kielty and then 2 "B" rated Hit and Runners in Kennedy and Ausmus. It is possible that where HAL would attemot a hit and run, since you are asking him not to then he opts for the straight steal. I have argued in other threads HAL's tendency to use the running game a little more often wit one out than with no outs, but that is merely an impression of mine, the only numbers I have to back that up are from a fairly small sample.

As you mentioned before, if this is bringing you good results why mess with it, eh?

All best of luck.

The other thing about Rollins...he doesn't walk much and a pretty fair number of his hits are for extra bases so his opportunities are a little more limited than they appear to be...

In my experience, I have gotten more stolen bases when I set the hit & run option to extra-conservative and forbid any of my hitters with less than a B hit & run rating from trying it. I currently have Rollins as my leadoff man on a team playing in Coors Field. After 81 games he has stolen 20 bases and has been caught just twice.
