I just want to check a rule:

we are forced to have the current players on our drafting list, right? We CANNOT drop a player before the draft, right?

That's my understanding and how I'm filling my draft card.

...I know it seems my spending is out of control but it's all a calculated effort (misguided as it may be but calculated nonetheless  )

I agree. You must put all your live drafted players on your AD card. After the AD you can drop/add/trade all you want.

re. Tejada being #1 SS in the set.

I don't know about this. The best STRAT players in the country certainly don't agree with this one, as they draft Young over Tejada straight up (there is no salary in STAR tournaments, you just draft the best players). It should be mentioned that injuries don't affect the STAR-tournament as much as in TSN, but considering that Young is a 680PA+ player, the difference between Young and Tejada in terms of potential injuries even in TSN-SOM is minimal.

http://www.startournaments.com/star_2006/d_anal/aps_pos.htm

They also draft Everett over Wilson, so I guess I should be concerned about my own pick, but
1-In STAR tournament, platooning doesn't cost anything. If that was the case in SOM-TSN, I wouldn't hesitate drafting Everett higher than Wilson.
2-There is a trend that Everett is being picked too early, as the 51 teams that drafted Everett played for sub.500 teams (.488).

In case you wonder, there is no DH in STAR tournaments. Injuries impact much less. There is no *SP vs SP distinction (all SPs are *SP), and there is no R3 (max R2). Also, many players are absent due to more stringent AB and innings restrictions. This explains some of the distorted results with regards to drafts in TSN.

And before qksilver gets too excited by finding out that Sabathia is a choice as popular as RJ, don't forget that, with no dh, pitchers come hit. Sabathia's 8NL becomes quite handy. Also, because platooning costs nothing, teams are usually loaded of right-handed lefty-bashers, making it tougher for a pitcher like RJ who allows vs rh to become succesful.

marcus, I don't think those rankings translate very well to the TSN SOM game. JD Drew as the #3 CF? Those rankings don't seem to take defense into consideration very much at all.

BTW, I emailed mcsoupy's brother.

lucky, a few comments:

1 - i'm not sure that i can take these ratings seriously when they have harden as the number 2 ranked sp (above halladay and king, who are both better straight up, and above petey, johan, and pettite who are slightly worse but are *'s).

2 - myoung has better obp than tejada. tejada has better slugging than myoung. myoung is better against lefties tejada has better fielding than myoung. since i play most of my games in big parks, maybe that is why i am a big tejada fan. they also ranked jeter above tejada, which isnt true (the are equal if not tejada slightly better not even including the money) and polanco over tejada which is a joke (especially in a big park).

3 - in my opinion, tejada is the only ss that i will play who can actually hit. any other ss is a dead spot in the lineup. i wont play myoung (since he's a 3 defensively). and the only other one i would play is arod (who is a yank and i wont touch since i hate him in real life so much). if the argument is jeter, he is overpriced by 2M dollars, so i wont touch him either.

The rankings do not take salary into consideration... I don't think Jeter is that overpriced...
