a 7M ss with a 2 in defense was available in the 4th round of tour finals...nope, not overpaid! :D

i just dont see enough offense in jeter to pay 7M for him. plus, hes like a 1 or 2 hitter on both sides, and i just dont really like paying for a 1 or 2 hitter who has little power that much money.

Bombers,
Drew is NOT the third cf. They put Drew as cf only because he's eligible there, but in italics, which means it's not his primary position. Drew is first and foremost a rf, so this is the position you should based on, and he's considered as the best rf among Strat players elite.

Remember though injuries have MUCH less impact. Also, remember that platooning is very easy and doesn't cost anything. When this is considered, Drew as the best rf, pretty much tied up with Giles and Guerrero, makes sense.

1- To your first point, maybe you haven't read my warning email: there is no *SP in the STAR tournament (or rather, every pitcher is considered a *SP). Harden ends up as #2 only because of this. Also, F-Hernandez is NOT eligible (he pitched too few innings to be eligible). Finally, TSN-SOM has wrongly rated Halladay, not sure why, but Harden is definitively better than Halladay. The best proof is perhaps that everyone has passed on Halladay.

2 - Polanco is NOT considered over Tejada. Read my comment to Bombers about the use of italics. As a ss, Tejada is better than Polanco, no doubt about that.

3 - Jeter does appear to be overrated, even in STAR tournaments. Teams drafting him play for a losing record (.470). In fact, as the season went on, Strat coaches tended to draft later than 9th. But not considering salary, I have to agree that Jeter is superior to Young and Tejada, but the difference is not as big as to use a 9th pick for him.

My own judgment about the STAR rankings is that they're not perfect, but they are very reliable.

Again, you have to understand that it's not the same environment than in TSN-SOM. To repeat myself: no salary restriction, injuries impact much less, platooning much more present, forcing people to avoid (or restrict down) the use of lefty pitching. No dh. All pitchers are *SP.

Many of the differences with TSN-SOM originate from the difference of environments.

That said, there are definitively case where those elite STRAT players where more accurate than TSN-SOM ratings. The virtual tie between Martinez, Valentin, Varitek certainly makes sense. In all respect to odieworks who picked Victor Martinez early, there is no explanation for me why Martinez should be paid 1M more than VAlentin or Varitek. It's as if TSN has not rated defense for catchers (a difficult thing, I have to acknowledge). Elite Strat coaches got it right there. Mauer position is explained only because platooning him increases his value. Harden vs Halladay is another case where TSN-SOM didn't get the ratings right. Even F-Hernandez is wrongly rated. Consider this: I think everyone will agree that Clemens has a better card, straight up, than Hernandez. Clemens will give you 41 starts, HErnandez will give you 33 start. By simply using a rule of three, we can calculate Clemens salary compared to Hernandez if you forget the *. ANd the difference is about 600K. Considering that Clemens's card is better, it's almost a 1M difference that is unexplanable. For some reasons, TSN-SOM has overrated F-Hernandez and HAlladay. Harden, perhaps because a S6, was better rated.

I generally have not picked Jeter because of his price tag, however his 2-4 solid HR and his 2-10, 2-11 and 2-12 BPHR are going to bat him 3rd against all the LHP in my division.
