Close to a rookie .....Season starts tomorrow. Playing in Petco, another Petco, Dodger stadium and Metrodome in division.

Can Wilson Betemit play 3B buy himself? I can drop Carvajal and pick up Freddy Sanchez to platoon if need be, or use Cuddyer but I'm not sure what impact his defense will have.

Also mulling taking Griffey for Hunter for injury purposes, but tried building around defense, basehits, speed and a stud bullpen. Not sure if I want to stick a 3 in center.

Got approximately $2M in loose change, want to get as much use out of Harden, Carrasco and Fultz as I can. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

I'll take a shot

Pitching:

You have over spent. You are in a big time pitcher park divison. You have 4SP* . If this is your plan(4 man rotaion) than drop Dingman( homer waiting to happen) for a SP that will never pitch. You have 3 RP with salaries over 5.5 mil. Way too much. I don't see where Harden fits in. I'd drop him for a upgrade in SP. You have no real closer, Everyday Eddie may surfice but you have to very careful with his settings. Fultz maybe overkill as well. Carrasco is going to get 200+ innings if you set him right. Drop Fultz for a less expensive arm...maybe Eyre. Upgrade at closer.....go with 10 pitchers to max out Carrasco and Eyre.

Offense:

Drop Ardoin for a cheaper backup ...Redmond will play 140+ games. Hunter is too injuy prone unless you are facing 6+ LHSP in your divison. Floyd can be a difference maker but I'm not sold on him in your division. I'd go for a LF that gets on base and is not BP dependent for power...Figgins, Conine, Tyner or any of many good LF platoons. Clark is going down for at least 20 games so you need a decent back up. I'd consider making Clark my DH and dropping the very injury prone Holiday for Casey(good hitter for your divison but beware the DP). I'd be looking too add guys like Polanco, Matsui, Randa , Duffy etc.

Just my opinion.

I agree 100% with Splinter.

I'd try and trade Harden & one of your RP for a top notch *SP. In case you can't I'd keep Colon & Radke and get rid of Westbrook & Lieber. Two SP I like on the FA wire are Vazquez & Wakefield for your park. In either case you don't need Harden as SP or RP.

I'd try and get Wagner for Fultz. Wags & Carrasco will cover most of your BP innings.

I like Clark, Redmond, Betemit (don't need to platoon if money is tight) & Ichiro.

Not a lot of great FA hitters for you out there. Try and trade for Duffy. I like Winn for Petco. Lofton would be a good DH if you left Clark at 1B.

I'd probably try and get Hudson for Counsell.

Good Luck

Are you expecting a huge number of RH hitters or are the other divisions packed with Minute Maid and Wrigley? Drop Harden and Westbrook and pick up a reverse RHP and a $.50 SP with no relief rating (leave him out of the rotation -- he'll only pitch once or twice a year, in relief during extra-inning games if the rest of the BP is spent). For my money, there are about a dozen SPs in the same price range I'd rather have than Lieber, who has too much natural HR on his card for a Petco team. You can afford some BPHR ratings, but not a 1-14/16 natural in the 9 line.

If I'm going to spend $6 mil on a reliever, it's going to be for a closer ... and I'm not wild about Guardardo in that role. I'd keep Carrasco for middle/set-up because I love his 7 line.

I'd use your savings from reworking the pitching staff to look at upgrading 3B -- although you could get by with Betemit -- and find a back-up 1B for when Clark gets injured or to platoon against reverse LHP (like Buehrle or Glavine). I would suggest someone like Mientkiewicz, who's cheap and is good defensively.

Pretty decent team for Petco overall, though.

Floyd & Hunter will disappoint at Petco (too many BP HR's). Too much money invested for injury prone platoon players in CF, SS & 2B. Personnally, I hate injury prone players if a more dependable steady alternative is available. Radke will be decent at home, but watch out on the road at parks that favor lefties. Consider B. Anderson or M. Hendrickson as cheap (.50) LH spot starters.
