Instructions on the ratings disk[quote:a81da31bc0]Congratulations for buying the Strat-O-Matic Ratings Disk. You can't get any more information
about Strat-O-Matic cards than you will find on this disk.
The data is presented in four different formats for your convenience. The .XLS files are
standard Microsoft Excel files. The .TXT files are standard text format files that can
be opened by any text editor. The .CSV files (located in CSV.ZIP) are comma-seperated text
versions of the same data. Comma-seperated text files are supported by most spreadsheets.
The .WK1 files (located in WK1.ZIP) are in 123 format.
The Ballpark.txt file contains this years ballpark chart. Also in the hitters
data fielding for each position is in a distinct column to make it easier for you
to sort and find the best available defensive players. For example, a catcher with a 1 primary
rating and an e-rating of 22 would be l22 in the catcher column.
Players who are used in the computer game only have an X after the team designation. (Note:
in the .txt files this is not true -- the computer only players appear in a group).
Players who received multiple cards have an M after the team designations. (Note:
in the .txt files this is not true -- the multi-card players appear in a group).
Most of the data on this disk is expressed in numerical "chances" that are dice-rolled
combinations - the customary way to crunch the numbers. For example, a Strat-O-Matic dice
roll of 7 (in any column) is worth six chances (out of 36 in each column), whereas a dice
roll of 4 is worth three chances and a dice roll of 2 is worth one.
If a "*" follows a batter's name or a pitcher's name, that player is a lefthander. If a
+ follows a batter, that player is a switch-hitter.
Here are the abbreviations in the team grids:
FOR BATTERS AND PITCHERS
Bb = walk chances
HIT = Hit chances
OB = On-base chances (walks+hits+HBP)
TB = total Bases (from hits only)
HR = Homerun chances
BP = Ballpark homerun chances (a "w" indicates weak power with no ballpark homer chances;
an "*" indicates the player has no ballpark single chances - all players without an
"*" have five single chances.
DP = Groundball A chances
ST = Advanced stealing grade
SP = Speed (runner) rating
SO = Strikeout chances
FOR BATTERS ONLY
AB = Actual at bats
CL = Players improvement or decline in the clutch (expressed in chances)
Stealing = Supplemental steal rating: Lead/Pickoff (success rate)
B = Bunting rating
H = Hit-and-run rating

PB (passed balls)
FOR PITCHERS ONLY

F = Pitcher's fielding range and e-rating.
ENDURANCE = Start/Relief/Closer ratings (an * indicates an asterisk-rated starter, who needs
only three days' rest between starts)
