AM-NAT FINAL DRAFT (what will the next wrinkle be?)

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I seriously thought about taking Toronto with all of their 5-year players and a 1 at SS. But I decided I wanted the glamour of a superstar in George Brett :D and a solid SS in UL Washington

My number 1 ranked NL team hasn't been chosen yet!

What kind of time frame do we have for expecting Genevajack to make his pick? I'd like to know when I should check back.

TOR

Postby honestiago1 » Thu Nov 10, 2005 11:57 pm

The Blue Jays were originally my top rated AL team. I went with an AL team on pick 6 because they were running out so fast, and I didn't pick until 19. I figured to get stuck with CLE. There are two still at least two AL teams out there that are very high value, as far as player salaries. The last two NL teams, in my opionion, are going to be CHC and ATL (not necessarily in that order).

I think one thing that drives picks is also going to be ball park, which is definitely going to play a part in my second and last pick. I have four teams I have my eye on, and a 5th team that I am pretty sure will be there if I decide to go in an unusual (for me) direction.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone going with the ballparks of the team they've already chosen (I'm not, at this point).

This is fun.

If genevajack gets back this afternoon he could check in and pick a team tonight depending on his schedule. Hopefully we can make good progress this weekend!

I would not be unhappy to use Three Rivers Stadium but I am not going to commit to it until I see what my 2nd stadium choice will be and how my players would fit in either stadium. As we make our 2nd team choice should we share what our team name and stadium choice will be?

Would Roofinghorse's possible team names be acceptable for this league? According to the rules on page 1 of this post it sounds like you must use the exact city name and mascot name for your team. For example: Pittsburgh Mets or New York Pirates. In his example it would be the New York Mets or New York Yankees if he had the Mets and Yankees. It would be kind of cool if someone got both New York or both Chicago teams.

There's a chance I could end up with Atlanta as my 2nd team. That would make me the old Milwaukee Braves. Do I get the rights to Hank Aaron from ATGII?

Mascots

Postby honestiago1 » Fri Nov 11, 2005 9:08 am

Some of the mascot names ARE going to be weird, aren't they? I mean, can you call any team the "Phillies" if they're not playing in Philadelphia (The "California Phiiles" for example?). Then there's the apropos, as bigdinkent mentioned. I can see somone with NYY/SF having the "New York Giants."

How about the "Pittsburgh Angels" -- there's a tough name for steel town.

It won't happen in this league, but the "San Diego Cardinals" would fulfill the spirit of the original SD franchise name, if not the terminology.

"Chicago Red Sox"
"St. Louis Indians"
"Toronto Pirates"
"Chicago Mariners"
"Cincinati White Sox"

If, IF the NYY draftee somehoe gets the Dodgers as well, then we have GOT to call it the "Brooklyn Dodgers." Right? RIGHT?

Mabye we should double up on the mascot names. Let see, we could have the...

Pirate Angels
Indian Dodgers
Brave Mariners
Tiger Cubs
Padre Brewers
Red Sox Reds??
