Thoughts on this '67 Fenway squad...season starts tonite!

I like slugging teams, but this is my first venture into Fenway '67. Had a decent draft, have some holes to fill...waivers is today at 5:00....

Any thoughts appreciated! :)

A few random thoughts FWIW ...

You've got the right start for your staff with Speer, Ruether and Vance. Don't like Orosco there. Clancy also doesn't fit unless you're saving him for pitcher's parks.

You need a facelift on defense though. Also, you're very RIGHT handed.

Bando, Brett or Boyer at 3rd would be nice.

HORNSBY, Morgan, Gordon or Lazzeri at 2nd.

Carter, Dickey, Campy or Lollar at C. Or you could go cheap to save $$$ for Brett and/or Hornsby and get a guy like Hegan.

Your outfield should put up some big numbers. But damn would Al Simmons look good patrolling RF for you.

BTW, what kind of league are you in that Al Simmons, Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter are both sitting on the FA wire???

Good Luck in waivers!

P.S. - Did I mention Rajah would look good at 2B???

Ty Cobb told me and proved to be right that Doyle is a big minus at Fenway due to his defense. A Fenway team that was floundering under .500 caught fire after I heeded Ty's advice and cut Doyle for Doran. Not enough chances to get people out at Fenway so you need a good 2nd and ss.

Without Doyle you do not have a true leadoff man which may hurt as well. So I would pick up either Joe Morgan or Rickie Henderson as a top priority in the waiver. You will also need at least one other lefty hitter Beyond that your club should hit very well, and you have a Bevy of value pitchers!

Vuck would be a good choice here plus he's a * pitcher . Nolan , Demaree , Flanagan ,Brazle are also good but may be more than you want to spend .

Thanks Guys!

Plan on moving Doyle (awarded him in draft when I missed Collins). Agree I am a bit too right handed, and will work to rectify that.

I will be moving Clancy, agree on analysis there....

I also am very surprised, I have seen Simmons left after draft, but cannot remember the last time Carter or Smith were there!

What do you think of Furillo in RF? Awarded him after missing Cuyler. I have used him alot in pitcher parks, and like him there, seems like he would do fine in Fenway, and I do like the arm and D....thoughts?

What about catcher? Any thoughts on Mancuso? Have never used him (got him for missing Parrish), and not much left in the way of Cheap catchers.....should I keep him and Grote? One or the other?

thanks! :)

Carter is who you should be looking at a Catcher if you can get him. But, if not, Lollar, Yeager, Sanguillen or Gedman would do nicely also. Good defense, plus a some pop.

Furillo would do fine in RF, but Simmons would absolutely rock in Fenway and he's only a 3 game injury risk to boot.

Well coach, to afford all of these expensive guys, i have to go cheap somewhere, so i think i am going cheap at catcher! I am 9th in waivers, so would be surprised if Carter or Simmons last that long...and I think I need a leadoff guy pretty badly, so I am leaning towards that. But I agree, Simmons is GREAT, and would really be nice in Fenway.

Thanks for the leads on catchers, i will take a look... :)

Keller and McCosky are also available if you are looking for left handed OBP to leadoff.

(Lollar has put up some good seasons for me if you can squeeze him in, otherwise Gedman is a great value too  )
