If you have 1 and only 1 SP* then yes, you can have that 1 guy pitch every 4th day and the rest will alternate over a 5 day period.

Game 1 LH*
Game 2 RH 1
Game 3 RH 2
Game 4 RH 3
Game 5 LH*
Game 6 RH 4
Game 7 RH 1 (5th day)

...but if you have 2 SP* it will not work

Game 1 LH*
Game 2 RH 1*
Game 3 RH 2
Game 4 RH 3
Game 5 LH*
Game 6 RH 1*
Game 7 RH 4
Game 8 RH 2
Game 9 LH*
Game10 RH1*
Game11 RH3 (7th day) - no good

spicki: my view (subject to theme author) is that you would be in compliance (if either have more *SP or all your other SPs are RH) beacuse you would have at least two opposite SPs pitching at least 2 of every 5 starts.

Thoughts?

From the looks of this....

You need to have either:

1 - 4 SP*'s
2 - 5 SP's (no *)
3 - 1 SP*'s
4 - 2 SP*'s if BOTH are opposites

I disagree w/ your view Mr. Wockenfuss sir.

Again the "SPIRIT" of this thing IMHO has already been twisted.

....any further it's "why bother"

I mean, I'm in sportsman but in a NORMAL draft I'd NEVER use 100% LH pitching anyway so.....

AP seems to suggest that two particular SP's have to pitch every fifth day. I would think that if I had 4 right handed starters that as long as two of them pitched in every five day period I would be okay, no?

i guess the real question is the rule based off percentage of starts or those 2 guys pitching every 5 days? 2 of 5 is 40%. so anything over 40% is good?

if it percentage of starts (which is how i read it), then if i have 1 lefty * in a lefty park, then he pitches 25% of the time. i could even have 1 of my 4 non-stars be lefty (since 1/4 of 75% is 18.75% and 3*18.75=56.25%, which is greater than 40%), but i couldnt have 2 lefty non-stars (since 2/4 of 75% is 37.5% which is less than 40%).

is my thinking accurate?

I don't disagree with your concern that the spirit of the rula has been watered down AP. I don't understand how a five man rotation with two of five is okay but then in your view the scenario you lay out in which opposites are starting 3 of every five is a violation? It fits the spirit more not less

I agree with mrbbw. my understanding is that 2 of every 5 days (or more than 2 of every 5 days) opposite SPs must start. This makes sense beacuse of the number of opposite hitters required on teams. In essence, no team can have a slanted line-up or rotation (via spot starter or otherwise).

I am fine with whatever is decided and will adjust accordingly. Barring change, i will exceed all the expectations anyway. So the more strict the better.

I plan on having either 2 RH *SPs go every 4th day OR have one * SP RH go every 4th day, One LH *SP go every fourth day and for the remaining 2 slots in a 4 man rotation make sute that one of those two slots is always filled by a RH SP so that I will have an ooposite going 2 of every 4 days. Then after Uncle required dumps...............????
