Woof funky 4-24.

Of the players mentioned:

I like Roberts, have used him several times. Good investment, having the chance of keeping your stellar def in 2B with enough OBP and SLG to lead off opens many possibilites for the rest of the lineup, cheaper defense in the corners, cheaper speed from the OF. Good buy IMO, has been in several teams of mine, only once posting sub-par disappointing stats. Something good about the only 1 rated 2B to have an inj of 1 and no more than 3 games.

Konerko has sucked big toes for me twice.
Ellis was cool once or twice, the only once or twice I've played him
Vlad, Disastrous once in McAfee, great the rest of the time
Berk and Abreu pretty good.
Giles and Crawford good stuff
Winn, never had.

Pitchers
Pedro and Zambrano pretty good thew only time I used them
Willis, Peavy, Carpenter, never even made the ffort to draft
Smoltz and Johnson -OK

Other notables I've passed on:
Hitters:
Manny - On monday I'll start my first team with him
Miguel Cabrera - On Monday I started my first team with him
Teixeira and Giambi- Like peavy, willis and Carp, haven't even tried for him

Pitchers
Never tried King Felix.

Funny, I had both Abreu and Roberts on a 100 win team in Safeco.

I think there's situations in which the 1 at 2b is worth the extra $$$... Specifically, I've found that if you have 1's at 2b, SS, and/or CF, and you draft S5 starters, you get way way way more value out of them.

They will all go consistently 6+ innings even though you've only paid for 5... i.e. bautista in this situation averaging 6.5 innings per start.

I batted Abreu 1st and Youkilis 2nd... then Roberts, Ortiz, Tracy, Sizemore, and then the two scrubs. Like you said, it's a pretty Safeco-ish team...

I've only used a few of these guys. I see most of them as simply too expensive for the limits of their cards.

[b:11398c9cc6]Hitters: [/b:11398c9cc6]
Roberts - never (too unbalanced and expensive).
B.Giles - often used, and never dissapointed. Always has OBP around .400.
Ellis - never, too expensive.
Vlad(?) - often used in MM or hitters parks and never dissapoints.
Abreu - never used.
Berkman - only once - too many injuries and unbalanced power.
Konerko - only if in MM
Winn - never, too unbalanced and too expensive.
Crawford - used a couple of times and was dissapointed.

Pitchers:
Pedro - never, too much $$
Zambrano - same as Pedro
Willis - use regularly in Amq.
Johnson - never used.
Smoltz - too much $$
Peavy - never been able to get him.
Carpenter(?) - only in MM.

dontrelle from hell...

Postby bomp helium » Fri Feb 02, 2007 12:19 am

yes, that was my Dontrelle Willis who went 4-24 -- at PNC! And that's with a two-game win streak to end the season...and as with all my teams, he had a solid lineup giving him run support...

He just flat-out stunk it up...

He singlehandedly destroyed my team and yet I couldn't bring myself to trade him, despite fair offers...I was fascinated...it was like watching a slow-motion car crash unfold...

Alou has been consistently solid for me (a great value at DH). David Ortiz has also always been solid. Kenny Rogers has also been a good value. And I'm always looking for Berkman (I always draft him and Hal usually sends me Ryan Howard, who has been mostly dreadful for the cost).

Pedro

Postby RefutationR » Sat Feb 03, 2007 4:37 pm

I'm amazed some of you guys think Pedro is overpriced, though maybe it's the BPHR's you don't like. In the right stadium, he's a steal. I've had him twice, both in Kauffman, and he won the Cy Young once and came in 2nd the other time. Was great both times, better than Clemens. He and Santana are both well worth the cash.

Have had [b:c8e980629f]Elllis [/b:c8e980629f]and [b:c8e980629f]Roberts[/b:c8e980629f] on my rostera couple times, then dropped before season started...they just seemed to expensive for what they brought to the table.

Never had [b:c8e980629f]Giles[/b:c8e980629f], but interesting to see others take on him.

[b:c8e980629f]Vlad's[/b:c8e980629f] done ok, but does seem to get injured an awful lot.

[b:c8e980629f]Abreu[/b:c8e980629f] does well, but never as much as I expect from him. Same goes for [b:c8e980629f]Berkman[/b:c8e980629f].

[b:c8e980629f]Konerko[/b:c8e980629f] seems way overpriced, always take Crisp over [b:c8e980629f]Winn [/b:c8e980629f](same production, save a couple $M)

Never pulled the trigger on [b:c8e980629f]Crawford.[/b:c8e980629f]

Pitchers:

Love [b:c8e980629f]Carpenter,[/b:c8e980629f] always does well. Also have had a lot of success with [b:c8e980629f]Smoltz [/b:c8e980629f](I typically play in Great American).

Peavy's had 2 great seasons, and 2 forgettable seasons for me.

I avoid [b:c8e980629f]Johnson[/b:c8e980629f], but like [b:c8e980629f]Willis[/b:c8e980629f], although someone usually beats me to him.

[b:c8e980629f]Pedro's [/b:c8e980629f]great in pitcher's parks, while [b:c8e980629f]Zambrano[/b:c8e980629f] never impresses.

Easy to find a lot of value in lower-priced closers, and couple with a $3M - $4M set-up man.
