New players....For the Love of the Game

First time to the new Boards. Looks great. Can access from the Front Office.
I read a couple of posts tonight that prompted me to make a comment. If TSN ATG2 is going to grow, we need new players. Ernie Banks never made it to the World Series but you can bet your fat--- that he knocked a lot of teams out of it. That is my point. I will probably never, ever, win a ring in ATG2 but I am playing for the love of the game. But, I will kick your --- when you least expect it. C,mon, Newbies, these guys with the data bases and spread sheets can be beat. Do not be intimadated.....Play Ball

I agree, I don't have spread sheets, nor data bases, and I'll take on any of these guys that do and give them a run for their money. I study the cards, go with my gut on some stuff and sometimes you get lucky with the die rolls, but the reason to play is because you have fun doing it. If you want to have spreadsheets and use formula's etc.. go nuts.. but you can still win without them. This I know.. :D :D :D

I'm with you wbonn. No databases or spreadsheets here either. My basic card reading strategy is--

Hitting - [b:fb441ce57a]BOLD [/b:fb441ce57a]= [b:fb441ce57a]GOOD[/b:fb441ce57a]
Pitching - [b:fb441ce57a]BOLD [/b:fb441ce57a]= [b:fb441ce57a]BAD[/b:fb441ce57a] :D

Never played Strat before I discovered this online game. Definitely a "feel" player rather than a number cruncher. Both styles have their proponents.

The best thing about playing here is the experienced players who are willing to help out the newbies. No hoarding of information here for sure. IMO, the better everyone gets, the more fun it gets!

I've been on for quite some time, May 2002, I believe, and have seen many, many players, considered expert vets now, when they first started playing. I too was a newbie once, as was everyone else. Who will be the next Nevdully (besides Nevdully himself  )? Time will tell.

Well said, MM. A few yyears back, a local radio station sponsored a baseball trivia contest,It was hels at one of the YMCA`s in Tulsa. My Wife and Son went with me. We were standing around waiting for it to start and this guy walked in, little fellow, horn rimmed glasses, carrying a brief case, wearing a Texas Rangers baseball cap, chewing gum, and reading a baseball trivia book. My Son looked at me and we were both intimidated. Since so many showed up, the organizers decided to run it like the old time spelling bee. Line up on the wall and when your turn came, you got your question. The little fellow was the first to go down on an easy question. I made it through fivr rounds. The station had the finals the following Monday evening on their station. These old boys had the trivia books memorized. It went on and on. Finally had a winner. My point is this. I don`t think they had a feel for the game. I think it was a memory thing for them. Probably could have done the same thing on Bible trivia. So, I will contunue to draft and play with my gut feeling. Hey, I am 64 yrs young. What the Hell. Got to do it my way. Win, lose, thank God baseball doesn`t have tie games Keep the faith, my Friend.

As you know, it doesn`t happen too often but when I can kick Pete`s butt or shut Gehrig down with a 50 cent pitcher, it is great fun. I`m with you, Buster. I think I am one and half seasons below .500. I use diamond Dope some but I don`t have the patience to really use it properly. Great game. I too am having the time of my life. Keep the faith, my Friend.
