The easiest way, in my opinion, to make sure your team doesnt have players from the wrong subset would be to
1 - build your team in default
2 - transfer your draft card into the 2 subsets that your're not supposed to use to see if any players get removed
3 - go back to default subset & join league.

For example I have to build my team from the pre 59 NL group. Therefore I'd build my team in default using players that I think belongs to pre 59 NL Teams. Then I'd transfer my draft card to the AL Only subset to see if any players got removed from the draft card, and then transfer it to the 61-90 subset for the same reason. Then if no players got removed, I'd know I'd have a legal team and could safely enter the league without having drafted an illegal player that another owner (using a different subset) might have on his draft card. :)
