Yount demolishing RBI record

Postby baracus68 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 10:30 am

A team in my league (luckiliy not in my division) is on pace to shatter the runs scored record. Yount's already blown past the RBI record on his way to two hundred. There's some things about the lineup that aren't so surprising (Rickey plus Robin equals Runs) and some things that are (e.g., three sub-$1 mil regulars in Heep, Morrison, and Wills).

Wow! Amazing numbers. Team OBP of .379. The real kicker is his team in not in first place.

Danny Heep's hitting 330 against RHP and has 40 RBIs in 294 ABs. Great team. Has the look of a Panzer Ace team. Who's the "bad man?"

One theory I have about this run factory of a team is that it's the perfect offensive team for the league it's in. There are an unusually high number of home run parks in the league (three Jack Murphys, a Wrigley, a Riverfront, etc.) and I think a lot of managers opted for what Bill Lee (who was one) used to call "rotten fruit" pitchers--guys who throw junk and keep the ball in the park but give up a lot of basehits. Enter a great Fenway team with Carew, Molitor, Yount, et al, and it's hello .309 team batting average.

Unfortunately for me, I've got one of those rotten fruit throwing staffs and I'm on schedule to face these guys in the first round of the playoffs--after surrendering nearly 10 runs a game to them during the season.

Jablowmi,
Thanks for the compliment. Its not my team. Although, my team is the reason that this one is 8 games back in 2nd place. :D

Panzer,

You've GOT to be kidding, right? Luis Aguayo, .305 BA, 25 HR, 77 RBI ????

Are you kiddin me? You have no right to be 92-57. I'm filing a complaint with SOM ... you must be buying some victories

VERY VERY impressive team --- Carter & Guerrero the only huge names, and both are having great seasons. 1's up the middle in Lemon, Carter, Doran and Fernandez. Some good SP, but nobody having a MONSTER season. Strong solid bullpen, but nobody that stands head & shoulders among the rest of the league .... Hmmmmm.... must be just good solid managing !

Nicely done.

Seanrelex,
Thanks. I was able to put together a pretty balanced team. My team is second in runs scored to 'Bad man'. The difference is my team has given up the second fewest runs in the league. Not bad for a Wrigley team. (Blue eyes is 9th in pitching) Baracus68 has a fine team also. It should be a very exciting playoff.

Say, Panzer Ace,

How about sharing some of the secrets of your success?

I mean, you've got the best won-lost percentage of anyone on page one of the 80's member rankings--by far!--currently an amazing .592. Plus 12 playoffs and 8 championships in 13 completed seasons. You must be doing something right!

How do you approach building and tweaking a team? Inquiring minds want to know.... :D

He mekes trades with dummies like me :)

Seriously, Panzer ace pulled a team out of last place at the halfway point. He is very patient and makes "little tweaks" here and there. He pulled off some trades, but nothing really one sided. He has a knack for finding pitching though.

Congrats PA
