Oil Can Surrenders To Authorities

Postby richswerb » Mon Nov 14, 2005 4:18 pm

I've tried to get Oil Can in just about every ATG league I've entered to date, and been denied by Maxie Minoso every time. I finally land The Can, and now this?

Anyone ever put together an "All-Criminal" ATG team?

[i:9b48af6bb9]'Oil Can' Boyd indicted on charges of making phone threats
November 14, 2005

JACKSON, Miss. --Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd surrendered Monday to federal agents in Tupelo to face charges he threatened a former girlfriend and possibly her son, the FBI said.

Boyd, 45, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Mississippi earlier this month.

Boyd, a Meridian native, now lives in East Providence, R.I., and plays baseball for the Brockton (Mass.) Rox, an independent minor league team in the Canadian-American League. He pitched his first game for the Rox in May, eight years after his last professional appearance.

John G. Raucci, special agent in charge of the FBI in Mississippi, and U.S. Attorney Jim M. Greenlee said in statement that Boyd allegedly made five telephone calls in which he threatened to harm the ex-girlfriend, who was also a business associate, and her son. Both live in Mississippi.

Authorities gave no other details about the case.

Boyd was being taken to Oxford to await an initial appearance before a federal magistrate.

If found guilty of the charges, Boyd could receive a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, three years' supervised release and up to $250,100 in fines.[/i:9b48af6bb9]

... and then he can pitch for the prison team! Shades of [i:7b1b1475d3]Wild Thing[/i:7b1b1475d3] from [u:7b1b1475d3]Major League[/u:7b1b1475d3] of course you would have to have Darryl Strawberry on your team!

I believe Chief Wahoo put together this theme team awhile back.
Doc Gooden was another mainstay, as I recall.

That explains it. Last night The Oil did this for Maxie, in a 60M league no less:

O.Boyd LOSS(6-6) 5 1/3 13 9 9 2 1 2 117 4.31

I thought it strange that he was talking on his cell phone during the fourth while diving up four runs.

I guess it is just the high price of Oil I keep reading about.

Pete Rose (although he didn't go to jail, but he should have!); any and all of the Black Sox; Ty cobb (for all his run-ins with the law, even though he didn't go to jail). heck, you could field a pretty good team!

Willie Wilson and, I think, U.L. Washington spent some time on narcotics charges. Probably "Pot". I think somebody wanted to "taint" Willie. Only in America. Martha stewart goes to ....PRISON....and O. J. is still playing golf. Give me a @#&*%$^&# break.

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=44554 Rather dilute bunch of criminals and miscreants. Cicotte and Williams were Black Sox, as was McMullen. Leflore and Cepeda did time. Durocher, Cobb, and Rose were jerks. Rose did time. I could have done better, methinks. The team lost in the finals. I am fairly certain the team was paid off to lose, but how do you prove such a thing?

Vida Blue just completed rehab a few months ago after his third DUI in six years and Willie Stargell admitted to passing out amphetamines to fellow players in 1979.

Most of the Bad "Nose" Bears of the 1980 cocaine trials didn't make it to ATGII. We'll have to wait for ATGIII to field a truly high-flying team.
