Forbes team - please rate my approach & team *** Revised ***

Postby sschu » Sat Nov 12, 2005 1:22 am

Playing in Forbes, Shibe 29, Fenway 46 and Sportsman 46 in division, mixed bag in the rest. Team is pre-waivers, my approach is:

Value SPs
Deep, good pen
Strong D up the middle
Good, balanced hitting
The idea is to stay close, and win or hold the lead late.

Draft results:
SPs
Drysdale
McNally
The Can
TBD - $4M to spend

RPs
Lefferts
Garber
Richert
Staley

C - Schalk
1B- TBD, about $6M to spend
2B - Morgan
3B - Rolfe
SS - Bowa
LF - Cleon
CF - Joe D
RF - Meusel

Is this a good formula and are these the right players?

Thanks much for your input, sschu

You should have a strong season (barring injuries, of course). The only change I would make from the direction you are heading is to drop about half of your relief pitching (your bullpen won't get as many innings in Forbes as in other parks) and put the money into your No. 1 starter.

It should be an enjoyable team to follow through the season. Good luck.

Agree with previous.
Move Staley and Richert for cheaper decent pen guys.
In Forbes, you will want a 1B not high on BP HRs.
Definitely get an ace for the starting staff.

sschu,

I'm not "feelin' it" with this team. I think in your division, you're gonna struggle on the road with your pitching. I'd try to go with starter that have only one or two BP HR's per side on their cards.

I'd probably try to beef up your starters and cut back to two solid relievers and a couple of value relievers. Obviously Garber's a keeper.

Luderus would fit over at 1st nicely.

And I like Ozzie, Honus or Chapman better than Bowa. Even Pesky. Lot's of options at SS.

A nice big LH bat would sure look good behind Joe D. How about sticking Reggie out in RF and sliding Meusel over to LF???

Then again, what do I know??? That team you and I talked about that I loved so much has started the year off 6-9 and is 6 games off the pace after only 15 games .......

well my 2 cents worth is you have to much relief. i agree at forbes there is no need for that much money spent in the pen. i would make a bid for a # 1 starter. even a guy like loes would be ok at forbes. get 3 or 4 guys on the cheap to match stadiums playing at can start and be your 4th if needed. and with dropping the extra money from pen and that should allow you to upgrade your # 1 and 2 starters. boyd a keeper and can fill the 3rd spot. who you have playing first jones?? or you using muesel in right? i think you overspent for cf also. just my thought. his 10 mil in your park is overpriced. his 10 mil can relate to you filling cf and 1b in your park. just my thoughts.

The best 1B for Forbes would be Frank Chance IMO. I used him on my Forbes team and he hit well. I think Reggie is better suited for a hitters park though. He didn't hit all that well on that same Forbes team.

Good luck! :D

CR,

You should have done the hurlers thing .... :)

Consensus seems to be a big SP and a decent 1B option.

Thanks for the input!

Changed up, dumped Morgan, 7 LH SPs in my division. I'm in Forbes, Shibe 29, Sprotsman 46 and Fenway 46 in my division.

I would go with White at 2B, you're not getting any offense out of that position anyway, why not maximize your defense? Plus Green and Maz are big-time slugs on the basepaths (when they do get on) At least White can run.

I would agree with the minimal pen comments, IF you had a truly scary rotation, but you don't, by a long shot, especially on the road.

Big mistake giving up Boyd, IMO. At least for me, he pitches like Hughson should, but for me, Hughson pitches like Little Pete, so maybe it's my beer.

I would dump Stieb for Boyd/Wilson/Nolan, in that order. All three will outpitch him and that would free up some extra cash to uppgrade the O, maybe to Whitaker, who is decent against righties and not tooo bad against lefties, but much better with the stick than White/Maz/Green from both sides, in any case. Gives you that good defenst. Or maybe upgrade Lude, although he is a nice option at 1B. If you're going to spend that much on a bat, Joe. D just hits, and hits, and hits. In ANY park.

I also think you need at least one LHP. i would dump Scott for Pfiester or Hubbel, if they're available, if not then grab Kaat (probably gone) to replace Stieb. Or you could get the aforementioned Boyd/Wilson/Nolan and use the extra $$ to upgrade Drysdale to Pollett/ford/grove, in that order.

Just my €0.02
