defense at SS

defense at SS

Postby DAVIDLEE 2 » Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:47 pm

I am in a AL only league and due to bad luck/bad drafting didn't get any SS that i wanted. Now stuck with a choice between a 3e18 or a 2e36. which would i be better off with?

Who are your choices? What players?

What is your other team defense like?

choices are J Bartlett 3e18, A. gonzalez 2e36. 2b and cf are 3's. i know that this is not a good combo but my choices are limited and a coulple of trade offers didn't work.

I have been told that range, especially at those middle defense positions is more important than errors.

Defensively, they are almost equal... the less errors but higher range equals the better range but higher errors. Choose your SS based on offense for your park.

Dr, that's a bit misleading.

Yes a 2e35 ~ to a 3e8, but don't confuse people that a 2e14 is close to a 3e5, cause it just isn't.

geekor,

It is not misleading. A 2e36 is about the same as a 3e18. There is nothing wrong with my statement. So I don't know where you came up with a 3e8 and a 2e14 ... because that's not what he asked.

I stand by my statement.

Doc,

a 2e36 = 3e7, not a 3e18. That's just couting OPS, and not even throwing the the extra DP's the 2 will turn. I'm not sure where you are getting you info from, but it's wrong.

That 3e18 better have enough extra offense to compensate for the def shortcomings, then it's ok. But seeing as Bartlet and Gonzalez offesne both suck, I'd definetly go with the 2e36

Geekor, I'm going from memory, but 2e36 = 3e18 seems closer to truth...

The difference between e36 and e18 is about 20 errors a year, and ss-3 will allow 21 more hits than a ss-2 in the span of a full season...

lucky,

I sure as hell don't run the numbers myself.

but from 2 different articles

[quote:e78bba1000]shortstop - fielding rating is king
1ss34 = 2e7, better than any other rating
1ss54 = 2ss29 = 3ss4, better than any other rating
1ss84 = 2ss60 = 3ss38 = 4ss10, better than any other rating[/quote:e78bba1000]

[quote:e78bba1000]Shortstop

10 0.111 0.306 0.501 0.696 0.891

20 0.218 0.407 0.597 0.787 0.977
21 0.227 0.416 0.606 0.795 0.984
22 0.241 0.43 0.619 0.807 0.996

24 0.269 0.456 0.644 0.831 1.019
25 0.278 0.465 0.652 0.839 1.026
26 0.287 0.474 0.66 0.847 1.033[/quote:e78bba1000]

I beleive the chart above is the OPS given up with those Range Error combination. Both things above point to a 2e26 (.447) = 3e7 (.471).

Once again I'm to lazy to do the math myself. I just use what I find other places.
