The way I understand the rule, the vets are correct; however, I believe there is some caveat about leaving the back-up catcher off of the lineup card (and manager strategy settings) as well.
For instance, if you have Bako and Lecroy, and you have Lecroy as your DH versus lefthanders, then when Bako gets hurt, you may find Alex Cora playing catcher for a game or two.
This happens so infrequently however, that when it does occur you might not even notice. Once the series is over, I think HAL defaults back to changing the DH to put the catcher behind the plate.
This thread reminds me of those days long gone when I remember wondering what would happen if four guys were hurt on a 13 man (high injury team) roster. Would the remaining guys be [i:bf387d5aea]unbreakable[/i:bf387d5aea]? No, SP Wilson Alvarez played the outfield in Game 2, went 1 for 3, then pitched a win in Game 3. I haven't seen this happen for a long time now, but I'm sure that if HAL will play Alex Cora at catcher, he'll still play Carlos Zambrano in the outfield.
Back to the topic, like [b:bf387d5aea]Worrierking[/b:bf387d5aea] I often use/seek out high injury catchers and can't say I've ever had both go down (when they were both assigned strictly as catchers).
